The textures can look Uncharted like at times (hardly the entire time). Given the scale of the game, everything looks extremely impressive. And everybody, even (if not especially) beta testers, should be delightfully surprised when they first start up the singleplayer.

This and Killzone 2 makes me wonder what Uncharted 2, R&CF2, and GoWIII will look like at the end of next year. :O

It means that they are scared and won't let them release their reviews early. It doesn't mean that it's a bad game, just look at Fallout 3, they were scared and didn't let reviewers review the game till it was released on the east coast. They are afraid that reviews will hurt sales or look bad compared to Gears of War 2.
