This thread again? Oh well, here it goes again.

Wii: ~140,000,000

Wii - 9.5mil - 6 billion
PS3 - 20m - 20,000,001
Xbox360 - 20,000,0001 - 20,000,001.5

If every single person in the world owned a Wii, than yes, 6 billion, or more, units would be sold.

I just came back from my Time Machine...

Okay, the Wii sold 189,493,530 units. The Playstation 3 sold 8,383,429 units, before Sony finally pulled out of the video game industry. The Xbox 360 sold 24,495,590 units. The Playstation 2 finally died in the year 2008, sellig 136,348,349 units. The Nintendo DS sold 138,459,340 units. The Playstation Portable sold 29,940,393 units. After the Playstation 3 went down, the Playstation Portable went down with it. Blu-Ray defeated HD-DVD, but than downloading movies onto computers won the format war.

Nintendo's next generation console is called the Nintendo Sphere. It is retailed at $249.95. So far, it isn't selling as strongly as the Wii, but that is expected to change after Super Mario Sphered is released. It is light blue, and has a spherical shape to it. Its graphics far surpass the Playstation 3's. Super Mario Universe, Super Smash Bros. Elite, and Mario Kart: Ultimate are its best selling games. It uses spherical controllers, and they work just like the wiimote, but better. Microsoft released the Xbox 3000, but it failed after selling only 4,393,342 units. Microsoft pulled out of the video game industry, and is now focusing on computers.

The iRiver G10 was released, and has sold 11,349,340 units, making it the best selling portable, not made by Nintendo, or Sony. It was eventually discontinued. Its best selling game was Super Flyers. Nintendo released another portable gaming console called the Nintendo Lava. It is slightly smaller than the Nintendo DS Lite, does everything the Nintendo DS Lite can do, but better, and has motion sensing capabilities, much like the wiimote, and Nintendo Sphere controller. The Gameboy Nano, a new member to the Gameboy family, was also released. The Nintendo Wii finally got its DVD/CD capabilities, and slightly increased the number of Wii's sold.

Motorola joined the console war with the Motorola Geneva. It sold 45,494,495 units. Its best selling game was Tiger Schnapps, a new platformer. Tiger Schnapps became the new mascot for Motorola.

Nintendo became so powerful that a new city in Japan was named Nintenland, and Nintenland became the new, capital city in Japan.

Wow people really think that the PS3 and X360 will continue at the rate they are now you need to look at what is coming up in the game library the price cuts that will be here what attracts buyers dont just look at comparing this gen and last gen things have changed alot and it can only get better for the consumer(us) and dont expect sale trends to continue from now until the end of the gen.

No, some of us believe that the PS3 and 360 will sell less than they are selling now in a not too distant future. And rightly so, as that is what has historically happened to consoles that don't win the generation, no matter what games come out for them. This generation might come out different from every other in the past, but I'm hardly convinced of that yet.

Exactly, but the ps3 needs games though, people wanted the ps2 since it had the most games and the best games as well as a cheap price. Like I said before 40gb model will bring the ps3 way back to what the wii is selling at this point.

40GB model will kick serious @ss this Christmas if it comes or even if they lower the 60GB or 80GB to $399 which would be even better and then next month is when the games start to roll in and the no games argument is already wafer thin anyway and alot of the hate that was on the PS3 last month and the month before has left after E3 and everyone has relised that the PS3 isnt as bad as first thought.

If the 20 GB model failed, what makes you think that the 40 GB model will make any difference? Price is only a barrier, and has nothing to do with the console itself. It's all about the games. The Playstation was $100 more expensive than the Nintendo 64, yet it defeated it. I think the Playstation 3 is doomed. Wii will win.

Some thing people over look when they guess the final sales.

  1. PS3 and 360 WILL go down in price.
  2. Their powerfull hardware gives then a longer life then wii.
  3. Ps3/360 game line ups are WAY underestimated.
  4. We have no clue if Wii can maintain their love affair with the non gamers.
  5. The 3rd partys have still yet to take a clear side unlike the last two gens.
  6. Nintendo has really been alienating the hardcore/core gamers.
  7. Sony and MS wont just lay down and let Nintendo win.
  8. PS2 is still ensuring PS3s future.
  9. MS bank account is quite big, they could really go all out if they wanted.
  10. PS brand has a past user base of +100 million, its still there waiting.

  1. So will the Wii.
  2. No, software drives hardware sales, not powerful hardware.
  3. Actually they are overestimated, they lack diversity.
  4. The DS gives us a hint.
  5. They are shifting resources to the Wii, if continues to sell that well (it probably will) it's clear for developers which side to choose (plus lower development costs).
  6. Nope, plenty of hardcore/core gamers on this forum, most of them own a Wii and love it.
  7. Sure, but what can they do, they are spending their money nearly solely on "hardcore" games.
  8. How so? Brand loyalty only helps to sell the first 2-3m of systems.
  9. Sure, but are they really willing to lose more billions of $ on a toy?
  10. That's wishful thinking, just like point 6 and 8.

Was gonna anwser but after #3 and #10 its quite apperant that theres not point.

I'll give you 3, that one'sa bit more subjective than it's being made out to be.

But 10... honestly, 100 million people aren't going to wait forever.  If they wanted it nearly as badly as you're claiming, the PS3 would be selling out left and right.

PS3: 5.51m/51w, avg 108,039/w (up 239)

PS2 sold 120 million ? so 100 million people did NOT buy it in its first year.

I will confidently say they will wait for MGS4 FF13 GT5, then really make up their minds.

At the rate of sales for the 7 months of 07.

in 5 years (really basic rough estimate)

Wii - 66 million (53%)
360 - 31 million ( 25%)
Ps3 - 27 milllion (22%)

You masterfully state a point without realizing it!

The point here is that about 100 million people who got PS2 did so because it was basically "THE" console. It had most of the good games and everybody was talking about it and buying it.

This time around that is the Wii, so its not much of a stretch to think that those 100 million people might not be that interested in the PS3...much less "waiting" for it to drop in price or "waiting" for the good games ...or "waiting" until x-mas '08 when it will "really matter".

Because the 40GB will be priced at $399 same as the X360 Premium unless they drop the price $50 but then you still need to get a first game so another $50 so then there both $399 again but you get a free game with the PS3 and free Blu-Rays so its the better deal and if it comes out it will come out around Christmas and make the PS3 sell better because it is cheaper.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

To be realisitic, guessing this is almost impossible, the wii sales we are seeing now are not showing demand, theyre showing production (or atleast the number nintendo puts into stores).
Even then, the sales will surely drop once demand has been reached, peaking again at holidays and on major game relases dates. We should do this same thread in january 08 when we have a much better idea of what to expect.

Nintendo plans to release 'the big 3' all within about 6-7 months, all 3 of which should boosth sales but in reality, do they even need to? If they didnt release another game this side of 08 they are still going to sell out (unless they do have millions stockpiled), Its going to be a very interesting holiday period either way :)
