Here is the report and some sales info.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2007/070725e.pdf

Apr-Jun 07

6.98 million DS sold, 47.27 million LTD (June)

3.43 million Wii sold, 9.27 million LTD (June)

3.55 million Pokemon sold

Does this mean that VGChartz has undertracked the Wii?

http://vgchartz.com/weekly.php?date=39264

According to that on July 1st by this site's numbers the Wii only had 8,851,147 WW sales.

It's sold to retailers, so a certain number are in transit, warehouses and store shelves.

"Sony earlier this month offered a discount on the PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp. said it's considering a price cut for the Xbox 360 to catch up with Nintendo."

MS clearly doesn't understand that they are not really competing with the Wii they are competing with the PS3. It's that simple, the Wii is targeting one demographic heavily and the PS3/360 are targeting another. There is obviously overlap in the appeal of the consoles but by in large that is the case.

Regardless, the 360 could use a price cut soon.

Just out of curiosity, what's the specific demographic the Wii is targeting, according to you?

Perhaps my wording was poor.  I didn't mean to imply that the wii was only targeting one demographic but that its focus was on different demographic segments than the PS3/360. And the reason I marganlize the overlap is not because it doesn't appeal to the traditional gamer segments but because I think those segments are largely getting a Wii plus another console.  So in that regard they aren't directly competing since that segment is choosing both.

No doubt some of it is to be attributed to that, but I am not sure that I would buy 400k considering the way it has been selling. I suppose there is no good way to know for sure at the moment.

Sold means delivered for Nintendo, check last years financials for this tid bit.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Actually the Wii is targeting all the demographics the 360/PS3 are, and more. The real difference rather is appeal and philosophy. The 360/PS3 are gunning for the same market appeal and same philosophy of gaming (graphics, mature content, short term appeal), where as the Wii has its own (innovation, universiality, long term appeal), that's the difference, not demographics per say.

The 360 and Ps3 can never hope to compete with the Wii so second place is the spot both know they have to fight for.

I think we are thinking along the same lines, or at least pretty close.  My first post about this was poorly worded probably check my responce to Bodhesatva for a more clear idea of what I meant.

3.43 million, i'm assuming that is US only right? Doesn't include other NA territories i think. Looks like vgcharts is quite accurate.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

heh, sorry hadn't actually clicked the link yet.
