@goddog, I think Nintendo said IF THE DS FAILED, the Wii would've been a different console. I don't think Nintendo was contemplating getting out of the business.

before people say SEGA left....I#d like to remind you SEGA neevr made 2 100 million + selling consoles....its brand name is nowhere near that of Playstation/

I feel dumber for reading this. There is absolutely no way the ps3 is the last Sony console.

His point about people buying consoles less due to the state of the economy is especially true. The Wii would have sold 350 million consoles by now if it weren't for the dreaded economy. *shakes fist at the economy*

I don't think that Google will release an OS. It sems a bit unnesecary. With Google Docs and Chrome Google have essentially rendered Internet Explorer and Microsoft office irrelevant (I know other programs have too, shush). I believe they will push Google Desktop, which essentially removes the need to use the whole folders system that Windows clings to. Why go to all the effort of making your own OS?

Although i agree that in the future, MS will put less time and money into xbox and Zune in an attemt to fend off Chrome, Google Docs, Firefox, Opera, Itunes, Mac OSX, Safari, Open Office and Iwork which are all gaining market share on their Windows equivalents

okay since you brought up sega, heres the difference between sony and sega:

SONY WON 2 STRAIGHT GENERATIONS!!!
Sega didn't do shit, they were just a minor annoyance for Nintendo before finally giving up after the dreamcast had about 10 million or so sales.


Not only did Playstation have 2 consecutive 100 million selling consoles, but they are the only company to actually beat Nintendo. Sega never beat nintendo. PS1 almost triple N64 sales, and PS2 amost had 6x more than GC.


So basically my point is after utterly destroying their competition for 2 straight generations they aren't going to stop after 1 bad one. They're going to release a Playstation 4 which launches at no more than $400 and they're going to do much better.

With Wii so strong this gen, and the crisis making nearly impossible to anybody to fill the gap, 1st place is gone for good, but 2nd place will be a prize to perseverance and somebody wishes to undermine Sony's one.
