Third party titles sell perfectly well on the Wii... the problem is that barely any GOOD games sell well.. and that's probably Capcom's worry.

That's not the point, It's very possible that the Wii may not be able to handle a complex animation or whatever.
The point is how he said it. It was a despective way to say that Capcom will not put RE5 on the Wii. Then he went ahead and compared Wii with a PS2. We know obviously that Capcom believes Wii is no more powerful than a PS2, hence the crappy DR:CTYD graphics.

This is perfectly feasible. It could use a fully 3D rendered background like the Battle for Middle-Earth II or MGS4, or it could be fully interactive like LittleBigPlanet's pod.
Like others have said, it's perfectly feasible that Wii may not be able to handle the title screen. I mean, what if they decided to make the title screen a little area you walk around, with doors that lead to 'New Game', 'Load Game', 'Options', 'Mercenaries', etc?
That said, watch the video in the RE5 news article on the front page. Takeuchi CONFIRMS that Wii will be getting its' own exclusive Resident Evil game at some point in the future. So enjoy RE5 on your HD system of choice and know that Wii will one day get a for-the-ground-up installment based around its' own strengths.

^^How exactly is it a burn when the Wii wasn't designed with tons of processing power in mind? Enlighten me.
The will obviously receive a port of RE5 as Capcom will need to get some money from this project. However, right now, they have to convince their high definition console owners they are getting something special. This is a pure marketing strategy.
If the Wii cannot handle some of RE5 levels, then they will be redesigned so that the Wii can handle. Nothing special here.
Ok that's a stupid argument. Just say "we don't want to" and period instead of treating us like idiots.
