Forums - Gaming Discussion - Triple A Games overrated?

I am sorry but the Brosnan Bond films aside from Goldeneye were terrible and forgettable in almost every regard. They stopped trying to make sense somewhere along the line and featured a stiff agent in one bleak situation after another.

Halle Berry was a horrible Bond girl.

Casino Royale was great. If you count the airplane scene there were two chase scenes. Poker is obviously important to a movie with Casino in the title (though they played Baccarat in the book). Featured a torture scene that was not gay, and had a badass ending.

Goldeneye= Russia is drab but the film is good.

Tommorow Never Dies= A media tycoon who wants to ignite war with China in order to increase tv ratings. Are u kidding me.

The World is Not Enough= Boring characters forgettable action sequences and a boring story about oil.

Die Another Day= Horrible Madonna theme song + a gian laser that melts a castle made of ice.

Why are people talking about James Bond?

On topic:

Well when one review can f#ck the average metacritic review for the game, then Id say the reviews arent fair , example Ratchet and Uncharted both AAA titles, are they considered? No.

I agree with you completely. Also, we shouldn't go by numbers, but rather the text and general tone of the reviews. Might as well go by user-numbers if we're just looking at a number and not the context in which it is presented.

You mean those things that gave Fable II an 8.9 and LBP a 6.3? User scores on metacritic are unreliable, the best critic scores are found on IGN, the best user scores are found on Gamespot (by best I mean most accurate- GTA4 has a 9.2 user score on PS3 from gamespot)

Most accurate according to who? Just curious.

Most accurate according to me, obviously...

The most overrated games of the year were GTA4 and MGS4 plain and simple. Both deserved scores around 9.5-9.8. I'm a huge MGS fan and when I saw all of the cut scenes, I was seriously amazed by the cinematic quality, but when I came to, I realized it takes too much from the game itself. The best MGS game is still one and then two, 4 comes next and then 3 is last. GTA4 was missing alot that should've been added. Rockstar is slowly milking the series and for that intentional fuck up by backtracking the game deserved to be degraded a couple points.

What is AAA? Someone on this site says it has nothing to do with quality of the game but rather the budget. So games like Star Wars Force unleashed and COD 3 on Wii are AAA. Apparently if a game cost like $15m to make and gets an average of 10% it is still AAA.

AAA = 9/10 or more.

That's what I thought.  At least partly.  I felt it should be a combination of how well it is rated and how much money was sunk into it.

He's wrong. A AAA game can be 8.5 at the very least. Anything below is a let down. It's a high budget game though. It has to be. AAA games are the quarterly flag bearers for their systems. The most anticipated games are held back until Q4 for the holiday season to push console sales, because those are the most important to bait people to your console when the sales are going to be at their height for the year.

Look triple AAA games some are overrated yes but you know when its rated that high it just means you get a complete game, well thought out, defect free that should be what it promised. There are pletny of games I have played in the 60-70 I loved they may have minor flaws but they were something I LIKED. I use reveiws as one tool when buying games

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I don't pay attention to review scores.

If I'm unsure about a game, in order of what i pay most attention to to least

i wiki the people involved in the game and see if i like their previous games
I ask my friends, because then I know exactly what their biases are, and i trust their opinions more than reviewers
I'll read around the user section of VGchartz
I'll check out the opinions of Penny Arcade and Zero Punctuation
I'll read a review. that's right, read the words. Not just the number at the top

Lol people take Zero Punctuation seriously?

I do actually, the guy has quite similar taste in games to me, and he's not afraid to tell the truth about a shit game just because it's popular. Just accept that he's a bitter man and thus take what he says with a grain of salt

While I will admit that if a game doesn't hit 65/100 overall without a good excuse [like socom's server trouble], I probably won't buy it. But there is more than just review scores, I actually READ the review.
