Forums - Sales Discussion - PAL Charts, Week 42: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 takes the crown

@dravenmanse: Those are good predictions but I think it will be a bit higher. PES tends to have higher first week sales but weaker legs compared to Fifa.

And PES is really big in few European countries. Not as big as Fifa in UK but should be more than 100k for each HD console anyway.
In Italy PES 2008 (PS2) was the best selling game for 2008 year and debuted there with 150k (PS3 version: 55k, 360: 24.5k). Expectations for PS3 version this year are at over 100k.
In Spain PES 2008 (PS2) was 3rd best selling in 2008 year while PS3 version also was in top 10 sellers for 2008.
Recently released figures for France also are pretty impresive. PES 2008 stands at 1.5 million with HD consoles at over 400k (however over 100k were bundled with PS3).

I think that PS3 may break 100k mark in UK, Italy, France and Spain, however for the last 2 we probably will never know if it actually will happen. X360 should also sell a lot however obviously less in Italy, France and Spain.

Any predictions for PES 2009 first week? I have bet 400 vg$ for following numbers in prediction league:

PES 2009 (PS3) - 520,000
PES 2009 (360) - 380,000

 predicted 450k for ps3 an 375k for 360.

So Saints Row II outsold PES week#1 on the 360? Interesting...

I'm pretty sure it has more to due with retaileres being more eager to break street date for SRII than for PES 2009. I don't expect PES 2009 (360) next week to be any lower than on 3rd place (Fable II is released that week so it may be higher).

Konami reveals huge UK marketing pot for triple-A football title

Konami’s biggest marketing spend ever will help Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 become the fastest-selling title in the franchise’s history, the publisher has told MCV.

The title touches down at retail today (Friday October 17th), and to coincide with its retail release Konami has embarked on a promotional campaign worth £2 million – a sum that will ensure it is the biggest-selling iteration of the famous franchise the trade has ever seen, according to the publisher.

“With PES 2009 being one of the key releases of the year for us, it will enjoy the biggest spend of any Konami title ever,” Konami UK marketing manager Rosemarie Dalton revealed to MCV. “We are spending over £2 million on it this year.

“The campaign is already in progress, with TV advertising well under way featuring Messi and the PES Unites message, and pitch-side hoardings at key Premiership grounds.

“Following this, a widespread online and press campaign, plus key in-store activity will follow. Activity will continue long after the initial launch, and will be updated for a return in the spring when the Wii version is released to retail.”

And when asked whether Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 can trump all previous versions in terms of pre-Christmas sales, Dalton added:

“Yes – every year, PES has grown, and with the new additions and the PES Unites campaign, we are certain that this will continue with the 2009 edition.”

PES 2009, the latest in the award winning series, is available on multiple formats, including PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2, PSP and Wii.

From last week's thread:

France:

PES 2008 through June 2008:

PS2: 700,000
PS3: 313,000 (including 130,000 bundles)
PC-: 130,000
360: 123,000
Wii: 100,000
NDS: 60,000

Total: 1.5m

PES 2007 through June 2007:

Total: 1.3m

For those questioning PES performance on 360, it has a major disadvantage as Microsoft make it difficult to apply the option files. Due to this the PES community concentrates on making option files for the PS3 version and don't give as much support to 360 version.

ins't pes bigger in the continental european countries?

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Too bad Konami is not going to release PES09 on the Wii anytime soon. What's up with companies releaseing multi plat games on the Wii like half a year later?

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

Well PES should be pretty dman big this year IMO... I know that here it had stolen many FIFA players hearts ;)

Bigger than FIFA, but PES was bigger than FIFA in UK too until last year. It will be interesting to see how it does in UK this year compared to previous PES editions. I don't think it will beat FIFA 09 first week in UK, but like you said, it should dominate FIFA on Continental Europe.

FIFA 09 (UK All Formats):

Week 1: 479k (360: 201k, PS3: 192k, PS2: 53k, PSP: 14k, OTH: 19k)
Week 2: 254k

LTD (All): 733k

UK is up.
Pes 2009 on Ps3 beat the 360 version !!!!!
