11.9 Million was the count of active accounts ( defined as active within a 30 days period of the information being released) as of 2 months ago.
The number is probably going to climb to 13 million sometime in 2009 with the release of the new expansion this coming november...
Worldwide revenue isn't 12.99 per account though as the price is cheaper in China ( it something like 7$ per or even less but they go through a third party that hosts the servers so Blizzard has fewer costs on those 7$) and that's a decent chunk of the population, although it isn't far off as most US players actually have the 14.99$ subscription.
PS : Wow is popular enough that last year when getting a smoke break outside of my work building I overheard random folks from another companies talking about their latest raid lol ( and then I joined the discussion):P
PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !
