Forums - Sales - The 360 price cuts could potentialy help the PS3 and here's why....

You've been arguing semantics this whole time. A dangerous road indeed. A theory built even partially on semantics and the "potential" for what people may think isn't going to hold up long. Because people have trouble agreeing on terms and because people make decisions for reasons we can only make "finger in the wind" guesses at. Hell, I couldn't even tell you the reasons why the people I've lived with for 20 years make some of the purchases they do.

Until the basic core package includes hard drive, wireless, free live it does not compare to ps3.

...And until the basic PS3 package is the same price as an Arcade or 60GB model, then it doesn't compare to the X360.

See what I just did?

Putting it at the same price level doesn't mean it will make them both equal in the market. Some people want the extra additional features that the Elite has. The Arcade is limited to people's needs. It is a great system for kids because they don't have to be technically advanced to play a game or worry about wireless, uploading and downloading things, and making friends online, they just play the game.

For those casual and hardcore gamers, they would want these if they had friends but also need to think about it......"Hey if I buy the Arcade model, it won't have online, how can I chat with my friends? and if I need to chat with my friends... I also have to pay for online and also the fact it doesn't have a hard drive so I can't store my favorite music or movies onto there" then they will consider paying more for the console than just $199 because they need those additional features. The 360 is worth it for the games but the cheaper models lack features and is just plain for those simple gamers but not the casual/hardcore.

I don't see why PS3 need to lower it to the Arcade model to prove a point. Also with all those great features, you can't sell it at $199. It is just too good to be true. Ask yourself, if you are a gamer and have don't have a 360 , would you get the arcade or Elite? I would get the Elite.

 Xbox 360 (93 Exclusive titles) / PLAYSTATION 3 (113 Exclusive Titles)

Not by much, but PS3 does have a total of more exclusives. just wanted to clear that up, but i'd say and continue to say so, just become a PS360 owner in 08 while you can that way you guys can stop your crying and whining and have the best of both worlds.

My opinion, (PS3 Bundle with LBP or R2 or something along those lines, for those of you looking to buy a PS3) and/or (Buy the Xbox 360 Arcade Model its a steal at 200 bux since the hard-drive is 100% upgradeable and with 3 year warranty at its default its a solid deal)

Well theres my atempt at peace that will be blown un to the wind oh well...

As for the Sales matter, i've got a simple answer to it "Only time will tell" although i hate that answer very very much, its the truth. *Runs out of the embers*

A) where you got that exclusive statistic from

B) what's a 360 exclusive doing on your PSN card?

Sorry, that logic is dead, there are people that think the wii has the best visuals of the 3 consoles, and im serious.

i'm confused?!?  i agree that the wii has the best visuals and yet i detect sarcasm.  did i miss something?

 see what I mean lol

Cooking Mama: Cook Off's graphics rival Crysis -.-

I really don't see how people think the wii has the best games though- most of them are so god awful that GameSpot refuses to review them. On the occasion it does, there are absolute gems like Jenga and Anubis II.

Price will certainly not affect the Wii- many don't even notice the other consoles. They'd rather play Cooking Mama: Cook Off or Wii Fit than COD4. Besides, this "200 buck 360", out of the box, doesn't have a hard drive. It also has no Xbox Live and no WLAN. so once you've upgraded everything, you have a 400 buck console.

Of course, a lot of people don't see this, all they see is "I get to play Halo 3 on a 200 buck console". Of course, soon all of these people will be out of the way and all that will be left are people who don't want a 360, regardless of its price. I give it another few weeks.

I suppose for the latter people, the fact that it is cheaper than a console with no HD and an incredibly cheap look does not give it a good image. Would you buy a 400 buck gaming PC?

If 360 is $200-$300, Wii is $250, and PS3 is $400-$500, PS3 will look like the odd man out to ordinary shoppers this holiday season. Other than LBP and shortages, I don't see why parents would get their kids a PS3 this Christmas vs Last Christmas.
360 this year vs last year is $80 cheaper, and has Viva Pinata 2 and Banjo Kazooie- both $40 games.

Wishful thinking I fear. The cost of things does matter to the mass public.

The fact remains that the gaming experience on the 360 and the PS3 is almost identical, so why pay more if you are an average gamer.... no point.

thats more a matter of opinion than fact. For many the 360 can never offer the same experiance. It can't offer me MGS 4, or Warhawk, or gran taurismo. It can't give me God of War, or little big planet. for many they adore nad love the PS Controller, and others believe it or not may prefer the XMB and PSN (Ipersonally do). Some like being able to swap out the HDD, and others want Blu Ray. Believe it or not, not everyone gtoes Gah Gah over halo and Gears of War, or paying for online gaming. Next time try pushing fact and not personal opinion as arguement.

Nice theory, however it seems to me as though some people can't comprehend it...

I still don't get how the 360 is considered HD when it has no HD playback (blue ray) features what so ever, we can say it's the best DVD based console on the market but not HD, or am i missing something?

its about game output, not optical media, both are hd gaming units, unless you want the ps3 to compete in the blueray market as a blueray player that happenes to play games, im sure they own that market

You are just distorting facts.

People who wants to buy a PS3 or an Xbox360 will buy it, no matter the price.

Microsoft reduced the price to attract the Wii user base but they are underestimating it. People doesn't buy a Wii because of the price, they buy it because of what is offering. Neither the Xbox360 nor the PS3 does that to that expanded audience. .

the playstation brand has always appealed to the casual audience. Maybe not the "new wii gamers" though.
