Wii will have a PS2 lifespan, regardless of new consoles.

2011 is too soon, I expect the successor of the Wii to be released in the second half of 2012.
im actually going to get 2012 to when the next gen console for nintendo comes out.
Wii2 must have HD in 2011-2012 as tech upgrades. Or it will be lowest seller as PS360 goes beyond Bluray if there is any
so are they gonna have to wait till 2011 to make another Smash Bros, Super Mario, Zelda, etc.?
what will they possibly do in the meantime? will they actually need to make some new IP's
2012, though I can understand their reasoning.
@kushal: Iwata alrady said Wii's successor will be HD.
Nintendo wouldn't release a new console just for a graphics upgrade.
Why do people have to do articles like this just to state the obvious. But it had a little sensational tone in it.
Nintendo is making huge profits and spending an increased amount of money to R&D is kinda obvious, even if the company wouldn't plan to release a new console ever again.
Why did he mention the iPhone, "OMG Nintendo is killing Apple"? Apparently, if i'd make toilet paper with touchscreen in it, it would compete with DS and iPhone. What's wrong with these people.
N6 - 2012 at earliest.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.
Seems about right. Wii launched Xmas '06 - meaning they would have got almost 6 Xmas's out of the "old" Wii hardware.
All they need to do with the Wii II:
- lots of storage (crystal system, potentially terrabytes of data)
- backwards compat with current controllers (definitely), also potentially reduces the cost of the device
- possible NO disc drive, digital dist only
- HD visuals, roughly on spec with the 360 (to make it easy for companies to port 360 games to the Wii HD)
- full virtualisation (runs GC, N64, Wii, ... games)
They wouldn't necessarily dump the Wii - just phase it out over 2-3 years. Price cuts, entry device, etc.
One interesting thing they *could* do with the Wii HD, is release a "raw" bundle - no controller (unlikely), if it fully supports Wii controllers. This way a $249 / $199 price point is more than possible.
