Because everyone is a fanboy (more or less) to the company that makes their favourite console.

So are you liking Sony less and less too due to all the fanatics this site has? I think there's actually more of them than Nintendo ones here. Also notice the 360 fan that just popped his head in. Either way, it isn't worth it, there are idiots on all sides, so you'll just end up hating gaming in general. OT: More recent reasons why sales matter: DQ9 on the DS: MH3 on the Wii: And lastly: Sales all play their role in where games go. I think it's worth caring about, not to mention interesting. |
Your post was perfect untill the last video.
Still get at least an 8.5/10.
The thing is, something has happened this generation that hasn't happened for quite some time. Namely, that the three consoles aren't just similar products. Each has taken gaming in different directions, and embodies a different philosophy on what gaming should be: Nintendo's fun entertainment, Sony's sensory extravaganza, or Microsoft's hormonal rush. This hasn't really happened since the SNES vs. Genesis days.
So why do people care? Simple: the losers in a given generation tend to copy the winner next time around (after all, it worked for the winner). People follow and defend console sales because they believe that whichever console wins this generation, that console's philosophy will become dominant, which means more games of that type.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Because Nintendo is winning, as they should be. Now everyone can see how much better Nintendo is than Sony or Micro$oft.
I think gamers should care, because the way the consoles sell determines the fate of each console and the games on it, and the games that will be made in the future all depend on how sales of consoles and games are now.

Because I like to know how my favourite games sell. And I like to know how the consoles I bought and may buy have sold.
Do I have to make money off something to enjoy analysing it? I find this stuff interesting. I don't make money off anything else I enjoy, so why should this be any different. I usually pay for my entertainment, not earn money off it.
I came here because i was curious about sales and due to the fate that my beloved Gamecube suffered last gen i.e. a total lack of games especially later in the life cycle. Will Wii garner as much software support as the PS2 did, no, but now we can be confident even at this early stage that the Wii will have better and prolonged software support.
@Dgc1808: Although, I'm not a fan of any kind of fanboy i can't see how the Nintendo ones are any worse than the Sony ones. Nintendo fanboys can get by on this site at this point by just being smug whereas the Sony ones are just total elitists. Either way, you can just ignore them and talk to the reasonable people.

Number 3 sums it up
