360 just dropped their prices again and are barely topping the PS3. If the PS3 drops their price just $25 everyone will ignore the 360. Why buy a 360? It will be dropped in 14 months which seems to be the XBox Brands mantra. 4-4.5 years and they pull the rug from right under you.  Why am I so confident the 360 will be off store shelves around 14 months from now?  It's running HD on DVDs and developers will run out of space and shift their resources to the PS3, the sales gap is shrinking and the PS3 is set to over take the 360.  Remember MS gets it's exclusives by bribes to the 3rd parties.  Basically MS pays the 3rd parties what they'd sell if they released on the PS3 and write them a cheque for that amount to tell them they are only allowed working for them and no one else; sort of like Nintendo did in the early 90s.

Also was that figure aquired before the debacle that was GTAIV (which caused a number of PS3 problems) and after the Japan release of SSBB (also caused problems).

2007 figures I believe. Well it paints PS3 in a better light. I can not remember the GTA IV debacle.

Say we take a third party source we would find that hardware failure rates for PS3 and Wii are both around 1 to 2%. So both consoles are equal in regards to hardware reliability.

Well I'm not sure the SSBB problem is actually considered hardware failure since the cause of the problem was people with filthy homes as it happened here as well, the reason you shipped it into Nintendo was for them to clean your system for you so you don't void your own warranty by doing it yourself. I mean they didn't have to do that they could have just told people that they shouldn't be so messy and never cleaned the systems.

Sony dislike?  You're assuming things again... I don't really get where you're getting this from, honestly I've had friends each gen have PS consoles fail on them and then Sony will just ignore their claims or tell them it'll cost them basically the price of the console to get it fixed, and it's even happened when their systems were still under warranty, I wait to get their systems till later in the gen for that fact, though PS3 is their most reliable system they've made.

aside from the obvious 360 cornbread the OP is loving, the one thing that I will say that can be a given, next gen, you will see MS and Sony, Nintendified in their business model. What you will see is:

1.) A GREATER emphasizes on first party titles. Relying on third party exclusives to justify your console to a consumer is OVER. You'll get a few 3rd party exclusives, but MS & Sony both are seeing that a GREAT first party lineup is a difference maker.

2.) If MS & Sony are serious about not starting with profit lose, they will look to make a profit off of the consoles, I wouldn't expect a leap in graphics over this gen.

3.) More game balance. So for those of you that like to classify games as "Casual" or "Hardcore" those lines will be farther blurred...
