are the exact same issues that are in nearly every WRPG ... ven the best ones like Baldur's Gate II
Care to elaborate?
tedious point-to-point fetch quests with very little story to push the experience
That's something I don't like in Bethesda games but its ridiculous to say it about Baldur's Gate 2 (or Fallout or KOTOR or ....) All of these had excellent story-lines and very good quests. Without the endless cut-scenes of JRPGs.
and a battle system that gets too repetitive far too fast.
Also definitely not true for WRPGs like Baldur's Gate 2 which had IMO the best, most interesting battle system of any RPG ever. The possibilities to win were endless the ways to game the system pretty slim. But JRPG style round based battle systems are so old. They have been not fun anymore since Might&Magic 5.

Some of us enjoy the sickening over done sentimental stuff in J-RPGs
Some of us love the simple battle system.
Some of us want to be told a story, and not be the one telling it.
Some of us don't like "create a character". I never did get that.
Some of us think W-RPGs are just bland and watered down medieval smelly poo.
Its all down to personal taste, I know a lot of peeps say that. But in this case it really is isn't it?
I for one can't stand the inventory system in W-RPGs, or the battle system, or the aimless roaming around...
