Forums - Sony - So did MGS4 fail to meet expectations?

LOL at 4M lifetime sales. It is selling more than 50K a week and will reach 4M way before the end of the year. It will definetly end up having lifetime sales of at least 5M.

So no, it didn't fail to meet sales expectations. It surpassed them.

Oh..... I forgot...... MGS4 was just released in around Mid-June. it's only Mid-September now.....

Consider that MGS2 was released around the holidays, and MGS4 was released in the middle of summer. No surprise MGS4 is undertracking.

I guess we'll have a much better picture come January 1st.

yes that is the standard PS2 version sales...

And yes MGS4 does have a chance of beating them...as long as it gets near 4.5 million by the end of this year.

This entire thread represents a question, replied to with speculative opinions from others.

My thread is not speculation.  I asked a question about what people thought about the price drop, and it's effects.  I didn't say anything about it, speculation would have fell into the thread had I given a reason for the price drop, when what I did was ask what the reason was, and gave choices.

This is speculation though, when you said that A) Sony Moneyhatted Konami (can't be proven true or false) and, B) when you said that 5 million was the lowes that PS3 fans said it will sell.  You make two claims, yet back neither of them up.

That my friend is speculation.  My thread is based on fact. 

Don't try to change the subject from your speculation to something else.

We have been over this before.  You apply your literal interpretation of the word speculation only when someone else is involved, never to your own posts.  If we really did broadly apply the principle, this site's forums would be nearly non-existant.

No, the thread is a question, the fact is that the first price drop failed to do much in Europe (if it's almost being outsold by the PS2).  that was the fact.

You didn't post any fact though, as you can see by my points A and B in the above post.

I doubt it. Thinking back to all the prediction threads, 5 million seemed to be the expected minimum for the majority of MGS fans.

Why did you wait months after it released? I remember tons of "Lol MGS4 bombed" comments from 360 and wii fans and everyone said "The only people who think this is lower than expected are you guys" Why don't you show us a solid link with these expectations? they couldn't do it when this game launched. We shouldn't have to scrounge up links because of your claims. that proof is on you.

I try to see how things play out before suddenly jumping to conclusions over one or two week's data. Surely months on from launch is a better time to gauge a title's success than the week after it is released?

MGS4 failed to meet expectations in my opinion. Many people defo the sony fanboys claimed that the game was going to sell 6-8 million and now the game seems like it is going to fall short of that and sell the least out of all MGS games excluding spinoffs and xbox versions. the graphics are ok/good but the game-play is kinda meh. gameplay is more important then graphics.

Both replies mean the same thing but are diff was of saying them, so grow up and stop reporting everyone that does not agree with you. how crap would this site get if everyone loved every game and every system and always agreed with everything you say.

Starcraft - Everything ok. You have been quiet lately and some what balanced with all things Sony. I'm guessing more xbox games are coming up so your ready to putting down the ps3 or you have more time on your hands?

btw. MGS4 is doing well and will sell through xmas and platinum sales as someone stated before. I have mates that have brought a ps3 recently and guess what game they have. Mgs4 :)

If you look at previous topics and news in the media, Konami weren't expecting MGS4 to be as big as it has become on the PS3, they probably knew it was going to be a gamble considering it is being launched on a console which is 3rd this gen. However, it has lived up to and exceeded their expectations. I'm sure one they release the platinum edition, the game will see another spike in sales especially around xmas period.
