Forums - Sales - VG Chartz Question: Do sales affect the enjoyment of a game?

For example:

Yakuza, Earthbound, Suikoden 2, Shadow of the Collosus, ICO.

Do sales affect how much you enjoy a game?

To me: No.  I know I hype up games that some people will respond by saying "It won't break the 1million barrier.", but I really don't care.  Little Big Planet may not sell Mario Kart numbers, but it won't detract from the enjoyment of the title.  The next Mass Effect, might not sell 3 million units, but it certainly won't stop me from buying it.

Some of the games I hated this gen sold in the millions:

Example: COD4, Halo 3, GTA IV

Sometimes it makes me sad knowing that a game didn't sell as well as it deserved, but other than that no.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I hear you man.

Captain Rainbow sold like shit, but I still play it on my friend's import Wii, and to this day, its still my second favorite Wii game.

Uncharted sold like REAL shit, but I ABSOLUTELY loved it.

No. But it makes me sad if a game I like doesn't sell well, because I know it will never get a sequel.

I'm in the opposite camp of Rol. Playing games that haven't sold well make me feel superior to other gamers because I can rationalize that by doing so makes me "artsy" and cool. Every game that has sold well must be met with vast amounts of scrutiny and criticism. I can agree with Rol on one thing though, gaming is all about the image.

Quality is subjective.

But generally, you can say that games that sell well on a console, is generally more enjoyable for a person who owns that console, than a game that sells little.

That doesn't work for cross-over sales though.

That also doesn't work if you don't fit the general demographic of your console.

For Wii owners, Mario Kart Wii is almost certainly the most enjoyable game. Wii Fit can't really be added, as people dont buy that (only) to have fun.

I wrote a long post once, about how you could calculate whether or not you fit the demographic of your console, by looking at sales numbers and what games you prefer. Unfortunately, I cannot find it.

The Wii version of Spy Fox is already out? How is it? They change anything from the PC version?

Common... I dont think that anyone would say no to a good game just because it sold badly ;)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Surprisingly many big sellers have been disappointing. Mario kart, gta 4, brawl and smg for example.
