Mario Galaxy, Braid, Wii Sports, Portal, and Bioshock are the only ones I've seen thus far that might bear remembrance once video games become accepted as a method of artistic expression. Maybe No More Heroes, too.

what's up with CoD 4? redicilous and offensive (to me, at least) storyline, typical gameplay, a plethora of nice effects. That's it... epic and classic my ass... more like usual and well done. I'd MUCH rather play GoW or R2.

GRAW for being the first next-gen game that delivered a next-gen experience.

Mario Galaxy is very likely to be remembered as the best game period this generation.
Other than that:
Metal Gear Solid 4: I think this one will age very nicely.
Call of Duty 4: New standard in FPS's, will probably become an FPS landmark like Goldeneye.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Depends on whether there's gonna be a sequel.
Spore: Revolutional new bridge title.
Wii Fit/Sports: Both showed the public new ways of gaming.
Twilight Princess: Will probably be outclassed by a second Zelda on Wii, although personally I found the game fantastic.
No More Heroes: Will definitely remain a cult classic.

Wii sports, the game that introduced us to what motion gaming could do on the wii.

I disagree with most of the games listed here as most are merely sequels which are seldomed remembered (CoD4 & MGS4 are likely exceptions).

Wii Sports be synonamous with this generation for revolutionizing the industry.

Wii Fit to a lesser degree and maybe Wii Music (good or bad)

1. METAL GEAR SOLID 4 : Guns Of The Patriots

As Masterful, Epic & Dramatic conclusion to the best series in gaming...just the best of best games ever!!

2. Super Mario Galaxy

It will be seen as MArio redeemed from the SMS debacle

The rest we will see what comes but the following will also be remembered:

GTA 4, Bioshock, Halo 3, GEOW, LBP, Portal, Wii Sports

What I am HOPING will be remembered:

I never thuoght Halo, Gears, or CoD were anything special. Fun games but nothing really WOW. Gears' co-op was fun but it was done a while ago with Halo. Team Fortress is just more fun than CoD and it came packaged in with Portal and Half-Life2. Halo, both games, this generation is just overrated mediocrity. GAIV was just another iteration on GTAIII so it didn't come close to the WOW feeling III had. This is as far as I can tell so far the best ones listed.

There are 4 games that haven't come out yet, but I'm willing to bet my limbs and my nuts that Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 will automatically be 90+ on metacritic along with Left4Dead, if not 95+. Valve and Blizzard have NEVER failed to deliver, not once. Also every game they come out with revolutionizes gaming and brings new things to the table in one way or another. There's no chance they won't be some of the best games this generation, most probably the best (They do cover the RTS,RPG,and FPS genres). Final Fantasy 13 is also a pretty surefire thing, but you never know, SE has made mistakes.

to the people listing smash brothers/uncharted/halo, are you just listing your favorite games or do you truly think it will be remembered as "the best from this generation"?
