Forums - Gaming - looks like EA Games has taken the first step against reselling your games

My thoughts? Companies are getting cheaper by the day.

How is this comment even relative to Rock Band 2? There are more songs than ever before on the disc and in addition to that, they are offering buyers of new copies a download code for 20 more. If anything EA is becomming more generous by the day, not cheaper.

Agreed.  I kinda like the idea that they will give a bonus of that magnetude (20 songs is nothing to sneeze over).  Now if it was something trivial like an extra costume or a extra playable character (unless it was a cool character) i really wouldn't care.

Wow I didn't think so many people were against reselling games. I sometimes buy used game and never at 95% of the original price. Usually, it's about 20-30% of the price of a new game.

I would that is sucks that you need to be the original owner of the game to get the DLC but I don't really care as I don't want to buy Rockband 2 and if I would, it would be new.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

Actually, I think this is how future versions of music games will work. They will have an iTunes like store. The game will come with a coupon that will allow you to buy X number of songs. That way you can select the songs that you want, not the ones that some else likes.

Uh...isn't this how most DLC is on consoles?

If you sold your copy of Halo 3 to someone, they wouldn't get the DLC maps you got right?

How is this different?

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Most DLC for 360 games (like Halo 3) is saved to the console and bought with your Live account, not a particular copy of the game.

This is a code on the back of the manual that is redeemed at the Rock Band website, and they then send you a code via email at a later time that you will somehow redeem on Live for the DLC. Once the code is used off the manual, that code would no longer be valid at the RB website for anyone to redeem it afterwards. (Say, a second buyer of a used copy.)

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.

Btw, I just realized something. Is this 20 free songs deal a voucher to download 20 songs worth of DLC that's already available? If that's the case, I think that this is a great idea. If it's 20 free songs that are only available to those who buy the game new, well, I think it's a crappy idea.

This is much better than the DRM and limited installs (3) that EA is pulling with Spore.

Both are aimed at stopping the used game market, though.  Consumers should be able to sell their games if they wish.

My questions: Are these 20 songs that would have been in the game anyway? Did they just take them out of the final product and make them "free" for new copies?

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

If EA etc wish to remove your option of selling the game/buying it second hand it'd be really easy for them to do so (for console games anyway). Just add one (1) online registration and stir ;)

If you ask me the only reason they don't take steps that would actually accomplish that is because there are laws against that sort of stuff (meaning that most countries, including the USA, require products to be able to be sold on by whoever buys them).

Used games are a racket that doesn't save anyone much money and only enriches gamestop.

Let's not forget about Hastings, Gamecrazy, Blockbuster, PlayNTrade, Amazon, Ebay, and gamers.
