Forums - Nintendo - Where's WiiConnect!

I'm guessing Animal Crossing Wii will make use of WC24.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

All that would require storage space, something the Wii simply does not have.

# of games above 75 on Metacritic (including downloadable):

360: 241     DS: 144

PS3: 152     PSP: 126

Wii: 85

I guess not now, maybe in the future...

@Joelcool: But Wii already has better online than 360 and WiiConnect is implemented in quite a few games. Now you're wanting "pay to play" content for games that aren't supposed to use it. By looking at new tracks in Mario Kart, i wouldn't work because of online where everybody wouldn't have the new tracks.

ummm..... and this from the same guy who said the PSN is inferior to Live. Look. I can tell you from experience that WiiConnect24 totally sucks compared to PSN, and Live is even better than PSN. Also, there's no reason Nintendo can't do online right this generation. Sony did it for the first time this gen, and they've almost caught up to MS and their 5-year head start. With all the dough Big N is raking in, they definitely have they capability to make WiiConnect shine. Why they don't is beyond me, but I suppose you've got to figure the Wii is selling even with (comparatively) crappy online so why bother....

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

@Retrasado: Somehow i knew someone was going to say that.

Let's see... First the common mindset that you also have. Everytime the talk is about online, people talk about Live and compare everything to it PSN gets better because it tries to copy Live, it doesn't have this Live feature, so it's worse. What causes that? Let's take Home for example, it's not out yet, but it really isn't getting the credit it deserves outside Sony fanboys, and why it's not getting the credit? Because Live doesn't have "Home".
Which leads us to M$ marketing. If look at Live objectively and consider you have to pay for it, it sucks bad in comparision to WFC and PSN, which are free (it really isn't worth the money).

Then, why look at things the way Live is the standard? Instead of looking, what is missing, you should look what others do better. Now, 360 doesn't even have a web browser, which is ironic, since M$ is the only one of the three that makes ones. Live actually has only one thing above the competition, which is having the excact same standards in every game (and this again is where WFC is in its worst).

Now, back to "comparatively crappy online", which is WiiConnect24, where are all the features from Live and PSN? Why they aren't online 24/7? Why they are not as accessible?
If we look at the next generation when it arrives, you'll notice that online for all consoles will be copied from Nintendo.

sadly wiiconnect was a promise nintendo didn't deliver, wii may get all the sales they want , but its online its inferior to the competition.

its not EVEN good to start with.

Well you're not wrong, it's your opinion. It all depends on what you expect out of the online service. The Wii offers a news, internet, and weather channel, and a VC service, among other things. You can argue all you want that it's worse than the 360's online service, and you wouldn't be wrong. It's your opinion and it's based off of what you expect from the online service.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it is "not even good to start with", but it could very well be that the wii's online services don't mix at all with what you wanted, and that's fine.

NOTE: Down below here when I say "we" I mean it in an individual sense, not collective.

At this point it seems we all just want Nintendo (or any other company) to do things exactly how we want them to. It's kind of funny how egotistical we are to expect them to do it exactly how we want them to do it, and get mad when they do it any differently. No company can cater to everyone's specific individual wants like that. Nintendo did what they thought was best for the Wii and the direction they want to head in.

Just go to the wifi option and sign online. You instantly get a new picture, replay save, and level that some other user created. You can also upload your own pictures, replays, and levels and Nintendo might send it out.
