Forums - Nintendo - are titles like Madworld and The Conduit going to actually sell?

Madworld is not going to be much of a seller. Everyone might as well understand that right now, and save themselves the trouble of trying to hype it into something big. The art style is strange, and the game looks incredibly violent (I concur that it looks like violence for the sake of violence - the game looks terrible, IMO). Madworld will appeal to angsty teenagers who enjoy slasher films like Saw and Hostel - but as sales of Manhunt demonstrated, that's a pretty small group.

The Conduit is a shooter, and shooters have done extremely well this generation so far. Not on Nintendo consoles, true... but there hasn't really been a true high-quality shooter yet on the Wii. Sales of the Conduit and the upcoming Call of Duty on Wii are going to be extremely interesting to watch. The sky's the limit if they successfully tap the latent audience waiting for a good FPS.

Sales of NMH were actually good as it's a niche title. It was a relatively low budget game and play time was relatively short. That make it good for a rental for people who don't collect games and it also offers limited replay value.

Some games are a flop at 1,000,000. Some games are a huge success at 100,000. NMH falls into the later, GTA IV would be in the former.

Anyone can tell from the texture quality of NMH that it was a low budget game

Actually, the textures are the cheapest thing, art wise, to make for a game. Its all just photoshopping in layers and UV mapping =) Models and animations are where people usually cut corners to save money =)

@OP - All depends on how much hype builds up for the game before it launches. I can see Conduit doing well as long as it gets an 8 or better review rating. Madworld will appeal to people who like different art styles and people who like gore games, but that can still be a fairly large audience.

Over here in the UK NMH got quite a lot of tv advertising and sales didn't really reflect the amount of exposure it got in my opinion.

Whether this will be the case with other games I don't know. With more niche games being released I think the audience will get more of an appetite for them so they will perform better.

Really? I think I saw 1 TV advert that's all.

Part of the problem is that games like Madworld and Conduit are not the reason why most people are buying the Wii.

Now this could be seen as a little Blue Ocean strategy on the part of Sega and High Voltage within the Wii market, but this doesn't encompass the entire gaming market since not everyone who plays video games owns, or is just going to buy a Wii by default.

If both games were developed for the PS3/360, I would practically guarantee they'd be lost in the shuffle and I'm pretty sure their developers are keenly aware of this.

Not that it matters, but I'm having second thoughts about Madworld since current reports have this game looking like glorified bloody violence for the sake of violence, with no purpose.

Much like Manhunt 2, which sold *phenomenally* even with all the press and uproar over the controversy.

If Madworld doesn't have excellent gameplay, I see no reason to buy it. It's a shame too since I was seriously looking forward to this initially before it just started looking like a bloodbath game with no substance.

It's all about hype, hype, hype.

If these games get hyped like crazy with plenty of advertising, they'll have an excellent chance of selling well.

If not, likely no.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Given that Sega makes do on its promise to actually advertise the game, I could see MadWorld creeping up to the 1 million mark eventually.

As for The Conduit, it'll be a million-seller, easily. I predict about 1.5 million, possibly 2.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

no they likely won't sell well at all. all that sells on the wii are mario games. put the name "mario" in the title and it will sell 3 million.

if they called it Mario's conduit, it'd sell 5 million.

I dont see why Conduit wouldnt sell, people are looking for a good shooter on the Wii. And examples of Red Steel (1 milion for average game) and Mp3 (still good sales) or even RE4 Wii. Are showing that there is room for games from this genre on the Wii. If Conduit gets a good publisher decent marketing and great reviews i dont see why it cant reach something like 1.5 - 2 milion which would be great.

Madworld is a bit different, because of the art direction and content, it needs good marketing and reviews to interest people, and it will be picked up by certain gamers. I think something around 500k would be a safe and possible prediction. Sega games sell on Wii well so we shall see. It would do Better then NMH

I think games like that can sell .

Sad, funny, and somewhat true at the time same, especially the last sentence.

It's weird to see everyone selling Madworld short based on it's different style and over the top violence. It's basically "Frank Miller" the game. And how could that possibly be a bad thing?

And the title selling poorly because of the violence... Grand Theft Auto anyone?

I expect Madworld to hit 1 million for the same reasons House of the Dead 2 & 3 is doing so well. People love fungore. Yes, I'm now calling this style fungore.

Anyways, the game that I expect to see flop sales wise is Deadly Creatures. It looks like a solid game, but I just don't see the "hardcore" crowd being enticed by playing as insects.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.
