Just when you think th Wii is the platform that sees the most hate here, a new challenger approaches.
Lovely.

The PC gets so much hate because of the culture of obnoxious elitism that surrounds its most devoted followers. It's nothing against the platform itself, but instead its most vocal supporters.
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

All of them fun(maybe not Katamari) and all of them full versions. And with Gamefly I can keep them till I finish them. |
lol welcome to my stragety.
I have my PC for games that I must have that are available to it while I can rent all the other ones for the PS3. GameFly has been a life saver in the games department.
Enjoy

@BenKenobi,
I'll have to check that out at my campus then. I usually don't go there often, but sometimes it's better to go there than other places. For example, $5 for a 25 foot ethernet cable and $2 for an ethernet coupler saved my ass last week, lol.

And yet when people talk relatively harmlessly about the PC here, we get a bunch of vocal console supporters who talk nothing but trash about the PC.
Some of it's reasonable, most of it's not. I find far more mature, friendly gamers in the PC community than the consoles...like the colorful Mr. Y up there just saying "Fuck PC gamers." That's great.
@IllegalPalidan, in my school bookstore you just go up to the counter and ask for a copy of Windows Vista...my old school had an online system though, where you register and download free programs like Office, and get opt for a $5 CD or something. Most universities have at least some sort of discount program though.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Soleron, does a PS3 include a keyboard, a mouse, speakers, a monitor? If you're planning on telling him to include the prices of those, then we have to include the prices of controllers, USB keyboards, HDTVs, and stereo systems in the PS3 price. And the cost of getting a mouse + keyboard is null anyhow, since pretty much everybody has ones from their old PC they can swap over. Geldorn, Windows is not the only operating system that can play videogames. There is a wonderfully free OS called Linux that has programs available for it (again, free) that will make Windows games compatible. And you're right - HD movie downloading isn't the same as having a blu-ray drive. Personally, I think it's better.
also: a blu-ray drive TigerDirect.com is $115. |
Where do you download HD movies for the PC? For keeps?

That figure doesn't include: Hahaha, ok let's take these one by one. - OS OS cost was $0, as I already own a copy. Microsoft allows several XP/Vista activations from one key if you use phone activation. Unless you're all posting from Ubuntu, I'm guessing you have an OS already as well :) And what if they don't? $100
- Monitor hahaha, if I include monitor, then you should include a 32" plasma with the 360. Hey, why not include a sofa while you're at it, and the cheetohs? Very few people don't have a TV. You don't need a 32" Plasma to play 360. - Mouse Logitech RX250, $8. Sure a better mouse costs more, but so does a dualshock. An $8 mouse won't provide a better experience than a console. But we'll stick with $8 for the addition. - Keyboard Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard, $10. - Speakers Does PS3 come with 5.1 surround sound system? Didn't think so. - Wireless chip Here in the PC world we call them "wireless cards" and they're integrated on most motherboards these days. I don't think wireless is necessary, so I'm with you on this one. Though I don't think that cheap motherboard has Wifi, just regular old wires.
And a Ps3 has some cool features like a BluRay drive that costs 200$ alone Blu-Ray drive for PC is actually $120. To get that without changing the price too much, we can swap out the current 640G hard drive, and switch to a more PS3-like 40G hard drive, and ditch the current optical storage for the BRD.

140+Shipping.
520+8+10+140-25= A lot more than a console.
PC's cost more, it's okay. This argument is like saying a Lexus costs less than a Bicycle.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

That resolution is about 3,000,000 pixels better than a typical PS3 game. About 4x the pixels, nothing major really. More if you compare games such as COD IV and GTA IV. @ Billy D If the Xbox 360 library is better than a PS3s library overall and the PC library includes a majority of the great Xbox 360 games then the PC library is outstandingly better than the PS3 library. PC gaming does have advantages if you have specific desires - if you're anal about visual quality obviously you'd skip the PS3/Xbox 360, If you're anal about 60fps skip the consoles, If you want mods/user content skip the consoles, if you want to play genres that aren't available on consoles I guess you're skipping as well. |
Um what? 1920x1200 is not 4 times more pixels than 1280x720, which is the resolution I am assuming you are using for the typical PS3 game. It's about 2.4 times more pixels. Perhaps you were thinking of 1600p which is 2560x1600 which is about 4 megapixels. Of course, a 30" 2560x1600 display costs about $1300.

Indeed. Sharper and smoother than the 360 version, it's noticeable. Mouse + Keyboard is a little wonky, but that's ok, because PC accepts my 360 controllers :)

Most cheap motherboards don't have wifi. And by "cheap" I mean those that are under $150. And the motherboard listed here for this build doesn't have wifi.
As a primary console gamer currently heres how I price my PC (Note a lot of people used this kind of formulae to justify their PS3 purchases)
Cost of Baseline PC to do general Multimedia centre/Office type duties on my big TV. (I do have one so im not blowing smoke here)
$500. (General Spec Athlon X2, 2gb Ram, 500gb HDD, Optical Drive, Case, Keyboard/Mouse)
Lifespan 5 years or $100 per year cost
Cost of upgrading to gaming specs
Xbox 360 controller. $40
Graphics card. $150
Total $190
Mid life refit (2.5 years)
More ram $40
New CPU $100
New GPU $150
Total $290 - $90 for old CPU/GPU = $200
End of life replacement (5 years)
Case can be reused (Worth $100) and old parts can be sold for about $100 which gives $100 back for the next full system and a $100 saving.
Cost of Office Machine - $500 every 5 years
Cost of 1st upgrade : $190
Cost of 2nd upgrade $200
Cost of 3rd upgrade $0 (Due to $100 residual and saving $$$ on the case.
Thats how I work out my upgrade path for my PC. (Just a rough estimate.)
Tease.

Right, so when it doesn't suit you to add costs to your comparisom you won't. Even when that means your PC will lag in capabilities compared to the consoles. Gotcha.
Besides, I see you've totally and utterly failed to get me a Blu-Ray equipped PC at or under $399 that performs, gaming wise, at or over the PS3.
Colour me unimpressed.
