ARTICLE (My additions) said:
1. Shigeru Miyamoto is no longer the man who made Donkey Kong He's the guy who keeps pushing the envelope.
He makes Mario Galaxy which pushes graphic and level design.
He makes Wii Sports, the first successful motion game.
He makes Zelda:Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. 2. Nintendo is not, actually, a videogame company
Huh? Nintendo doesn't cause contraversy like GTA so they don't make videogames? Wow. Pretty stupid.
Naming a console Wii and including motion control caused more contraversy than any GTA. Just not contraversy about violence. Instead, they disrupt the market and include people. While GTA excludes. 3. Making Nintendo games for hardcore gamers is difficult Something about upturning the tea table and then misapplying the phrase.
Nintendo is perfectly capable of making a game without disrupting, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and Zelda are hardly innovative. They are solid and fun sequels.
Meanwhile games like Pikmin and Super Mario Galaxy
4. Making Nintendo games for casual gamers is easier So far Nintendo has been able to make just as many or more first party gore games as N64 and Gamecube. They have been able to maximize revenue by making two very solid line-ups. 5. Even Nintendo’s ‘hardcore’ games are no longer hardcore Galaxy's first 60 stars are easier to get than Super Mario 64's first 60. The later 60 are debatable. But is it we are more used to 3d games, are using better controls, and better level design or is it just easier. I think it falls somewhere in between.
The author doesn't use a consistent definition of hardcore. In the earlier statements, he uses "hardcore" to describe the similar artstyle or controls, now he uses it for difficulty.
Anyway, this is a pretty narrow view of gaming. A hardcore gamer enjoys many types of games. If they don't than they are a hardcore FPS fan, or Sports fan, etc.
6. Focusing on hardcore users didn’t work last time around The author starts an entirely new subject, based on his previous argument being correct. Which I have proven it is a matter of opinion and that he has not included enough evidence to convince me to think alike.
7. Nintendo is not giving fans the IP they keep asking for
The fastest way to kill a strong artistic brand is to give the fans what they want. It hardly ever produces a spectacular product. See: Star Wars Prequels Show All battles, Spiderman 3's Venom, Zelda:TP's return to a mature artsyle, 8. At Nintendo, online is an option, not an essential Hasn't hurt the sales of hardcore titles. Hasn't hurt any review scores for Galaxy, Zelda. It hasn't prevented Mario Kart from becoming one of the most played-online games ever. I don't have numbers, but I'm sure it is played online more than any other racing game; and probably compares pretty well to COD, Halo, or Gears of War.
9. Third-party publishers like Nintendo just the way it is What does third party behavior have to do with Nintendo. There are arguments to support this, but he doesn't use these.
Nintendo is encouraging third parties to innovate by providing a platform (Wii and Wii Ware) that is easy and cheap to develop for. 10. Nobody else does Nintendo games as well as Nintendo
Huh?
