Where are you getting the "33%" Xbox 360 failure rate figure from? I know the 360 had a high failure rate early on, but I don't think it is quite that high after the first few months following release. I might be wrong.

Between the RROD, disc scratch error and HDD malfunctions, I'm pretty sure the number was above even 33% for a while. The 360's hardware was a proper disaster for some time but they reeled it in very well and treated their customers fairly.

OP is hilarious, by the way.

Calculations aren't needed anymore, but wow.

MS didn't extend their warrenty until 2008, how many people do you think bought a second and 3rd console in the 2 years prior to the warrenty? How many people rebought a system after the 3 year warrenty expired?

Still, even if 2-5 or more million 360 system sales are rebought systems, PS3 is on top regardless, and it's looking that PS4 will dominate once again! If PS3 eventually tops Wii, then Sony can say Playstation has been the most popular branded gaming machine since 1995 continuously.

CONSOLE FAILURE RATE: Xbox 360 - 54.2 percent

SECOND CONSOLE FAILURE RATE: Xbox 360 - 41.2 percent

GAMERS WITH FRIENDS WHO HAVE HAD A CONSOLE FAILURE: Xbox 360 - 69.9 percent

http://www.gamespot.com/news/xbox-360-failure-rate-542-6215590

That article was posted in 2009, 4 years after it released.

Microsoft fixed the issues with the newer 360 design.

At the time of this article

36.4% of 360 owners bought a second console, compared to 13..4% of PS3 owners.

This article was written in August 2009, when 30 and 23 million 360's and PS3 had been sold respectively. This means that 7.5 million 360's were replacement consoles at this point, and about 2.5 million PS3's.

---

So regarding the OP, you would have been right had you waited a year and a half. The 360-PS3 gap was <5 million by the end of 2009.

Oh wow! This thread also shows the huge Microsoft supporter S.T.A.G.E used to be. God times have changed.

Even badgenome used to be one of the avid 360 supporters on this site. Good times.

Forget those 2, what about when Kow was neutral?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

I know a guy who bought as many as 4 XBOX 360s. He's pretty casual and wasn't privy to the overheating issue. Once I saw where he was keeping his console I told him about it and had him move it to a different location. He never had the issue again.
