Forums - Sony - PSP 3000's hottest feature: Reduced battery life

You could get a bigger battery if you want.

The PSP 2k and 3k come with 1200 amh

and they have 1800 for sale, and even 2200.

Your battery life can be up to ten hours on the PSP 2k with the 2200.

Question. Aren't those batteries huge, and do they infact require buldging battery covers that make your PSP gaudy, are usually only available in black, and make the console uncomfortable to play? I've done some youtube research on PSP battery life.

I'd rather just pick up a second, regular sized battery.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I'd stick with the DS except the games I have on UMD don't seem to plug in anywhere on the console and I'm having trouble getting it to synch with the PS3 and play remote video. Doesn't... work...

Careful with that. Approaching the line of "You don't wanna go there."

Point being, if you really want to play platform exclusive titles, you find a way to make it work for you. It's not difficult.

It shouldn't be too tough to find a battery with the same profile although the standard 1200mAh would work fine as a back up.

So I wont be able to play 4.5-5 hours just 4-4.5 hours ? Big deal... Im getting it anyways :P

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Sony should've included the 2200 battery on these new PSPs...

To those calling for better batteries (in the same form factor):

Ain't gonna happen. Li-Ion is dangerously close to packing too much in there to be safe as is (witness the laptop fires when production goes wrong). Setting aside that issue, battery research is not exactly lightning quick. It can take decades to get a better battery.

Every company (and their dogs!) are trying to get better batteries for stuff like mobile phones, laptops, etc because every single customer makes the same complaint: they don't last long enough. Yet apart from introducing Li-Ion a few years back nothing has changed.

In fact, most companies try to find ways to reduce battery usage instead of trying to get better batteries. Because improving batteries is just to darned hard.

Not to single you out, but since you are like the premier PSP advocate of this site they could make a PSP with no battery what-so-ever that plugs into a power outlet and you'd probably still buy it dude.

Don't offices have power outlets? Mine does. Do planes have some? (a slight fear of flying keeps me grounded, so I don't really remember)

I've never really had battery problems with mine.

Offices usually do, planes don't as far as I know (though I haven't flown on anything larger than a 757 in years)

What? 757s are some of the biggest commercial jets out there, particularly for domestic travel.

Anyhow, no, planes don't have outlets on them.

They do, but usually just in Business Class, I'm not aware of any airlines that have them in Economy Class.

Considering getting one of these, the battery life doesn't really bother me too much, I'll just buy another battery next time I fly long-haul. I do the same for my mobile and laptop, so it's no big deal.

So are you going to spend the whole 11 hours of the flight playing games?

Like I said earlier, yes the PSP gets 4 or 5 hours of brightnesss.

On the highest brightness setting, and on the highest volume, with the smallest battery.

Now don't go and buy tons of batteries, but you can buy the extended battery kit (I think it's like 35 bucks) which doubles the battery life for the slim. So five hours on the highest settings quickly turns to ten. Turn the brightness down on the screen, play a game made in 2007 (222 mhz) and use headphones, and knocking fifteen out of it isn't that hard to do. So theoretically, if for the whole 11 hours you wanted to play PSP you could.

Also, if you don't buy one, who cares, 35 million people seem to not care about the battery life.

And yet people still won't agree with you if you just use the simplest solution. Practical? Sensible? Obvious? Oh no.

Or you could pay the extra for Business Class and buy an airline power adapter. Some planes have standard AC plugs in Business.
