I just noticed it myself...

In Japan -

DS has 23 or so million sellers.

PS2 has 18 or so million sellers.

DS only topped PS2 hw a few months ago so I think this explains why DS is such a monster in Japan...

There are probably at least 4 million selling games left too for Japan:

- Chrono Trigger

- Dragon Quest IX

- Pokemon Platnum

- Dragon Quest VI

It's really not surprising there's many must have games on the DS, PS2 had many different games though not as many were games that everyone just HAD to have more like multiple niches got their games, while DS appeals to a wide audience and the games reflect the same ideal.

Anyway, it's amazing but as mentioned it kinda shows the difference between the last gen platforms and the current-gen Disruptors. The PS2, and all other consoles back then catered to niches with a broad and diversified library, whereas the DS go for mass-appeal.

By the end of the year, it should break Ps2 in total software sales there too.


BTW, are our GBA Japan software totals complete? I would assume they are, but GBA sold 16M HW, and has 47M SW. DS has 23M, but 103M SW totals. That's just huge compared to GBA.

DS might become the best selling gaming machine software wise by start of 09, but probably in February or so.

Well done to the DS.

But then difference I think in one per person and one per household markets but impressive none the less. Especially in a market so dominated by the PS2 at one point.

But. But. DS is a fad.

The only fact that surprises me is that the Überdominant PS2 has only 18 million sellers in Japan.
I for myself thought it would be more.
