Forums - Sales - Help With Understanding Impact of Tales... for 360 in Japan

Thanks for responses so far. Looks to me (with additional input) like 360 managed a very respectable performance then (not just compared to itself).

I know the near 300% bump, etc. is great but it was still only to 24K units which is pretty small compared to Wii.

What I wanted to understand whether the SW was good and it seems it was reasonable for this type of game in Japan - so it seems Japanese will definitely buy 360 based titles in reasonable numbers. If the HW bump doesn't last long or raise the average weekly level though I think that this is just another Ace Combat in terms of really helping 360 HW in Japanese market.

Like I said those kudos to MS for going for the titles/genres that will give it the best chance.

As a developer though I wouldn't go 360 only unless MS was paying for the privilege as the evidence sseems to show you'd be better multi in Japan for sure right now.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I agree that developers are better off going multiplatform HD or Wii exclusive (or all three).  I think what would be great for MS is if all these titles resulted in the Xbox 360 selling 3k a week instead of 1.5k a week.  But thats a big lift %-wise on normal sales, so we'll have to see.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

@topic and ClaudeLv250

I've moved and expanded my comments to explain much of the "Tales of" series(as it is quite confusing actually) here:

http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=37951

I hoped to more thoroughly explain what seperates Vesperia from most other games in the series, and in creating a full topic about it I can present a longer and more complete post, and more people will be able to read and further expand their gaming knowledge on this important and surpisingly oft brought up subject.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

i think dev's chose the 360 not just because of japan but because of areas outside of japan.

Just saying it would have been better if the game was released on ps3 is true if you only talk about Japan but if you think of what happans when the game is released world-wide then it seems quite sensible.

same reason final fantasy XIII is coming out on 360.

i think its prob too early to tell, the drop of seems to be quite big for vesperia. then again it was also for symphonia 2 but i think that game will have stronger legs overall

Well I am sure there is some amount of ego towards a developers' decision to put a game like this on the 360. Nothing quite like being called the savior of a system(ie. Bungie). Developers are people, and as such, love to have the limelight. The money M$ probably paid them would cover the cost of making the game(possibly).

I know there was a thread couple of weeks back showing a massive ad campaign by ms.

I think this will result in a bump in sales for a few weeks.
After that It may lift the 360 to 5k a week.

That's my take on it.

The 360 was doing 5000+ in Japan before Tales came out. In fact the week before it did over 6000. So dont you mean it may lift to 8 or 9000?

Well I was thinking 5k as an average to stay at but 8 or 9 would be nice

I'm thinking that was from anticipation of the game. Would be nice though if it levels at about 8-9k.
