Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm about to buy a Wii, but I need some advice.

Hello everyone, I've been a longtime lurker at VGchartz and now I finally found a reason to reveal myself. Anyway, long story short, I'm about to buy a Wii but I don't have a clear idea on what types of extra controllers to buy.

Me, together with my brother and sister are very fond of playing Smash Bros. games and Mario Party games. I myself would like to try Wii Sports with them as well and of course play the hardcore N-games such as Metroid, SMG and Zelda.

What I'm after is maximized peripherals in one spending. Aside from the bundled nunchuck set, what should be the standard set of controllers for four players? What would be the best set of extra controllers should I buy?

1. Do I need 3 more sets of Nunchucks+Wiimote?

2. Would just 3 more Wiimotes do?

3. Do I need to buy classic controllers for SSBB?

I'd appreciate your advice. :)

Wavebirds for smash brothers...

WiiPlay gets you a controller...plus a $10 game.

WiiSports doesn't need more than two remotes + nunchucks to be fun.

my advice would be not to buy a wii, but since it's your money and you've already decided, then I recommend you buy the wavebird.

SSBB is best played with traditional controls :)

You can get pretty far with 4 Wiimotes just 2 nunchucks.

I've downloaded a bunch of Virtual Console games, and I still haven't purchased a classic controller. The control scheme is a little wonky, but I've made do with a Gamecube controller for my SNES VC games.

My advice would be to get 1 extra nunchuck and 2 extra Wiimotes for your siblings (3 extra Wiimotes if you're expecting more company), and purchasing other peripherals on an as-needed basis.

use a gc controller for SSBB
get wii play it gives a free controller, and its a fun multi player game(i liked it)
then ofcourse get 3 more nun chucks and 2 remotes.
a gc controller also works with vc games

I am not a huge SSBB player, but I played just fine with only wiimote+nunchuk.

If you want 4 players then get Wii Sports + 2 more wiimotes and 3 nunchuks.

IF you want a gc controller, definitely try to get the wavebirds. They are by far better. You will probably want 2 classic controllers if you plan on playing vc games that are not just NES.

GC controller works best for SSBB but I found playing it with just the Wiimote + nunchuck works.

For Wii Sports, all u need is 1 extra nunchuck for boxing so You could get 3 Wiimotes + 1 nunchuck and be fine. Or Get Wii Play + 2 Wiimotes + 1 nunchuk.

I havent played SMG but for co-op, I think its the same thing. 2 sets of Wiimotes + nunchuk (so just 2 nunchuks!!!)

Zelda is a 1 player game, so just 1 wiimote and nunchuck

Metroid i believe is 1 player so same thing, 1 wiimote and nunchuck.

May I recommend Mario Kart Wii? All u need for that game is 4 Wiimotes.

So my final advice: You can get through alot with 3 Wiimotes + 1 nunchuk. So thats $140. If u get Wii Play its $150 since it comes with a Wiimote. So in total w/o games its $400 + tax for the controllers and Wii system. For the games you;ve mentioned, you could get them used and save some money. All up to you. Maybe you could get some used accessories but thats up to u.

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

GC controls works best with brawl imo cause of the c - stick

wii play is also good for multiplayer

I would get the classic controller for games like super Mario world where the controls are awkward when played with the gamecube controller

In addition to the packed-in wiimote and nunchuck, I'd recommend one each of wiimote, nunchuck, classic controller and Gamecube controller. Brawl is best with GC, but it's very playable with classic controller or wiimote + nunchuck.

A few accessories that are simply "fun" and have no gameplay, or at least very minor gameplay alternation is the Wii-Wheel, and the Zapper. Both can be bought with a game (Link's Crossbow training, and Mario Kart wii).

Rechargable battery packs are very useful if you have the expendable cash.
Same goes with a awesome wii-robot that cleans your house an... wait. You mean they havn't invented a wii-robot? Dang. Back to the cyrotube I go.

I hope that helps!
