Bungie Hints at New Map Editing Options and Bots for Halo 3

Could a major Halo 3 upgrade be in the works?

By Kyle Stallock, 08/12/2008

Gamasutra is reporting that developer Bungie has been awarded the Edge Award for Interactive Innovation for Halo 3. Bungie was unable to attend the awards ceremony at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, but they sent their acceptance speech in video form. As you can see by watching the video above, Bungie never misses an opportunity to tease us with upcoming content.

A substantial portion of the video, hosted by former 1UP news editor and full-time Scarab Lord Luke Smith, hints at the possibility of including non-player characters from the single-player into Halo 3's multiplayer levels. The NPCs themselves remain stationary for the most part, so it's hard to say if they will have full bot functionality. The most interesting part of the video is at the very end. Is that a bare bones area for people to design their own levels? Can that be used in conjunction with the single-player bots to create our own custom campaigns? We have no idea what's going on just yet, but our curiosity is certainly piqued.

Being able to design my own single-player map and populate it with enemies would be AWESOME!  Would breathe new life into Halo 3 for me.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Bots? Win. :D

Will you teach me to football?

Why do so few games have bots!!!!

Why so little interest? I thought lack of bots and a barebones level designer were the chief complaints about H3?

I, for one, wanna know what that big BLUE room is he's standing in momentarily at the end.

i guess bots would be nice... a few of my friends complain about that on halo 1, but since the advent of live, no problems.... barebones level designer also would be nice... a more in depth forge, but again, seems like it would be a big update for a smaller amount of people... especialy the bots... if they dont have live, or an internet conection, seems like it might miss most of the audiance its aimed at unless the update is released as a standalone, or a collection like what happened for halo 2

Funny. I saw this video always in connection with a new Halo game

This is awesome! I'm thinking about holding back on the design of my new map until the update. When is it?

"YouR opinion is WronG!!!"

yeah that sounds like a nice addition

Bots would be a welcomed and awesome addition. The reason I enjoyed the UT games so much is because of the incorporation of Bots. Bots = win for Halo!!
