I think the price drop might hurt the 360 a little in big retail chains, such as Best Buy and Circuit City. The reason being, the stores won't get as much money out of selling a cheap product. Therefore the employees will push the PS3 onto customers, telling them it's a better value because it has Blu-ray. They will also try to push PS3 units along with newly purchased HDTVs for the same reason, the Blu-ray capabilities. The more they can add to the purchase, the better.

Microsoft and Sony can pay all they want to the stores to advertise their products, but in the end it's really up to how management and the employees want to sell these products onto customers.

Yes, cuz all the customers that go shopping for a console need the employees and the management of the store to tell them what they want.

btw...retail stores make little to nothing off of selling the actual console, they make their money off the games and accessories you buy. If you follow your logic how do you explain the success of the cheaper wii and why it's always sold out?

Gran Turismo 5 is competing with Forza 3,so i see a tie on the horizon.
Some people lied/missinformed that the arcade doesn`t save/work on Live and i wonder why...

And i still don`t know why Sony didn`t drop the price of the 40gb model when for the same price you can get an 80gb one. Any ideas why?

Find the threads that discuss sony's financial situtition with there gaming division. They can't afford to drop price on 40gb model.

The xbox won three straight weeks. SO WHAT!!! The PS3 beat it the previous 7-1/2 months. You actually think that a $199 Arcade will make any difference. The arcade version is worthless. You can't play on line, you can't update the the system or games and you can't even save game progress. People are realising the xbox is a rushed, cheaply made, stripped down version of the PS3. You can buy any xbox and to get it to do what the PS3 does off the shelf, you have to spend more than what the PS3 costs. Not to mention the $10 a month you have to pay for online playing. Over the supposed 7 year cycle that microsoft claims, that is $420 extra. But don't worry, your x-box 360 will have the infamous "ring of death" long before that seventh year comes. I wonder how many of the X-box's 20 million is sales are replacements for ones that have died. Don't forget there are less that 13 million x-box live users, where are the remaining 7 million?
My prediction is the PS3 will pass the x-box by the middle of 2009. After that microsoft will abandon the console industry. They have lost billions on the 360 and there is no end in sight.

O'RLY? Source, please. Tell your butt to PM me this info because it's obvious you pulled this info from out of there. Your *trolling* is clueless and utterly pathetic.

PHAIL.

Is it true that you can play online games on XBL without paying the $10 monthly fee? I am an XBL gold member and I pay $10 every month. Enlighten me, so that I can save that money.

Are you forgetting that most people who want Gears of War 2 have already bought a 360 for it? Are you forgetting that the PS3 has some excellent shooters coming up? Are you forgetting that those hardcore GTA fans have already bought GTA IV?

Give me a break. The 360 is great, but it can't beat the PS3 even when it has excellent games, better online and better price. Look at last year's WW holiday season.

oh my friend... what are you talking about? ps3 is an excellent console, no doubt...but better online????????? and better games?? (yep, i know you mean mgs4, but a single game does not make the difference) do you have an x360? if you dont, you need to try it urgent!

@ocnkng

You are either mentally challenged, or utterly full of shit. For a twelve month gold subscription card with a bonus month you pay only $3.84 per month. Even if for some ridiculous reason you decide to buy only one month at a time a one month gold card will only run you $7.99 per month. So as you might gather unless your state has some perverse tax law with something like a 25% rate. You can never pay ten dollars a month for a gold subscription.

Here is a relevant link.

Here is the relevant passage.

Look for prepaid subscription cards available only at your favorite videogame retailer. Subscription cards get you a Gold membership to Xbox Live®, from one month to over a year.

Sony slaves are funny.

You think that +40gb of hdd space without BC will help the ps3 WW? It can not compete with a real price drop ( 20gb at 299 and arcade at 199 and soon 60gb at 299) What i like is that you think that only Gears 2 and Fable 2 will move consoles... what about GTA 4 episode 1 (fall 2008) and episode 2 (spring 2009)? PS3 owners got upset because the pc will wave gta4 with the exact content they do,but not xbox 360 owners...we will get 10 hours+ per episode (it was 25 milion dollars per episode,so...). And believe me,the 360 will be just fine.

And will +40 gb of hdd space with very limited BC save the 360? The 360 can't compete WW with a price drop only in the US. The GTA IV DLC won't help. Where is the "360 GTA IV outsells PS3 GTA IV 2:1" crowd? The 360 will be fine, but it will be behind the PS3.

I think both of you are forgetting the rules.

PS:  I don't know about 7 weeks though, it's possible.

Your points are not very well thought out.  1st, I am a parent and I care about HDD and so does my 8 year old.

2nd, arcade rumored price $199, recharge pack $15, 20 gig add on HD (needed to update the system firmware, PRETTY IMPORTANT!!!) $100 or 512mb memory card(won't let you update system) $50, Wireless adapter $100, HDMI conversion kit $90

that's a total of $454 for memory card or $504 for the HDD and no ability to watch HD movies

40gig PS3  $400

80gig w/MGS4   $500

Your right about the PS3 not coming with an HDMI cord, however the only 360 w/ a HDMI port is the Premier (not very next-gen)

If you read the post, I said to get a 360 to do what a PS3 does off the shelf.

3rd, Since I've had my PS3 for over a year and a half, and the PS3 failure rate is below 1%, I don't worry about it breaking after 1 year, in fact I don't worry about it at all.

in contrast the 360 has somewhere between 25% & 35% percent failure rate.  These include power cord problems, the "ring of death", overheating problems, and it scratches disks.

and last, Microsoft still counts the replacement 360's as shipped 360's.  So in other words, the 20million sold includes all the returned 360's. Also Microsoft offers a FREE 3 month subscription to LIVE which I do believe includes some sort of free game download.  That is a pretty good incentive to at least try it out.  It just seems funny that the number of failures is pretty close to the number non-LiVE users.

Even if the price is $6/month for LIVE  $6 x 12months x 7years = $504

If you need sources: prices are from best buy.com, as far as failure rates, just google it, you will have a multitude of sources confirming my statements  You should check it out and decide for yourself
