Forums - Nintendo - Key Weakness of the Wii - Graphic Capabilites?

Again I issue the warning to those in this thread to stay respectful of your fellow posters. This is not a difficult task, but should you find it difficult I advise you not to post in this thread.

Hear, hear! Well said Sqrl!

Based on some of the comments in this thread I wonder why more people who think graphics are critical to the realization of a truly immersive experience aren't just gaming on PC's. Or is it that their HD console of choice has graphics that are "good enough" for them? I'll ponder it some more.

Granted, but Capcom gambled on the Gamecube, and it didn't pay off as much as they hoped and needed. Mind you I'm hardly blaming the Gamecube (1.5 million copies should be profitable, unless you really screwed up), but if you look at the situation from Capcom's perspective, they bet on Nintendo and came up short. It may not be rational, but it IS understandable why they might feel cautious towards Nintendo for a bit (and why some of the key employees who made that deal are no longer with Capcom, while their current president ascended to his current post).

No, they did not bet on the GC. They just promised a few games, but gave the PS2 most of their games. Them coming up short was their own problem.

The reason they didn't support the Wii was just an assumption it wasn't going to do well (as a lot of developers did), because they actually said that was the reason.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Lol. You just made me remember when the first 3D games came out. Developers were rushing to release their half assed games as fast as possible and everyone was OMG OMG 3D. They didn't care that those games had no story and gameplay whatsoever, all they cared was 3D lol.

And now the history repeats itself...

So bring an excuse each time you get shot down? Did you note recently that Capcom announced Okami on Wii (a long dated port with no upgrades and no TV advertising on a console with 1/4th the install base) just sold as much as the PS2 release and it's still selling each week?

So, which excuse to you plan to use on that one?

Was there any console which had a short lifetime due to graphics?

Just the PS2. That ugly slow blocky pixely laggy pile of shit only lasted 8 years... so far.

huh ?

mighty PLAYSTATION 2 lifespan was short due weak graphics ??

i believe SONY's success in the gaming devision bothers you(i could be wrong)

That was sarcasm, 321.

yea of course.....if the MIGHTY PLAYSTATION 2 lifespan was short then i strongly believe the UNSUCCESSFUL gamecube and the good welcomed xbox never existed.........

It's me! The one who made the comment! Let me explain it for you!

NJ5 asked if weak graphics have ever held a system back.

I said the PS2, as a joke, because it was BY FAR the weakest system of the 6th generation, and yet BY FAR the best selling system of the 6th generation.

This was to draw attention to the fact that graphics not only never get in the way of a system's success, but they are also NEVER responsible for a system's success.

Most users here have looked at all the chartz and actually noticed this trend, so they got my joke. I recommend browsing through the chartz a bit so you won't sound like a total jackass when you troll everywhere.

The Game Boy, the PS1, the PS2, the DS, and the Wii, are all very weak compared to their competitors. They all completely dominated.

There are 2 assumptions we can make here:

1) A system's weakness is its greatest asset and gives it a huge sales boost.

2) A system's weakness doesn't matter at all, and it's just a coincidence.

Either one of these assumptions points to the conclusion "Oh shit, the Wii is going to sell over 140 million and NOTHING CAN STOP IT."

Good day.

And stop saying "mighty PLAYSTATION 2."

MIGHTY PS1 was weak compared to the nintendo 64 ???

you said wii would sell 140 million right ?so what if it makes 140 million ??who showed a home console could pass the 100 million mark ? SONY did !

why nintendo didn't make the mark first although they was on the market for such a long time ??

of course the MIGHTY PS2 was a weak console(in terms of graphics) but did u ever see GRAN TURISMO 3 and 4 running on the system ??my bet is no.....

anyway i am waiting for the wii to pass the "85 million mark" to get back to this thread...

The GC was "UNSUCCESSFULL"? It made almost as much profit as the PS2 did. It may have came in 3rd place, but that's not what all success is based on.

wow...almost as much profit as the MIGHTY PS2 ??

i guess gc was more successful in terms of profit than the long lived nes....

321, are you being sarcastic just because Ghost and Soriku were being sarcastic?
