I wouldn't be labelling games of a generation yet, it's wayyyy too early for that.

But from what's out thus far, my FAVOURITE (doesn't mean it's the best) is CoD4. That game was one kick to the face after another and it was awesome. MGS4 definitely has it's moments of wow, but it's not as frequent as CoD4 and the slowdown with certain parts really makes me lose interest in the game (then again, I'm not a die-hard fanatic of the MGS storyline).

Weird thing though, for some reason, I don't like the graphics in MGS4. It feels so artificial, it's not just the B&B corps beast appearance or the gecko's and things that aren't realistic (raiden's appearance), but none of the characters "come alive" if you get me. Sure they had emotions, but they didn't seem real and they felt forced by the animators and voice acting. Maybe it's just me, but I was pretty put off by the cutscenes because of that.

And don't bother to try, you could not have a dozen of better games even if you could pick from last gen too.

Super Mario Galaxy is game of the generation. MGS4 gets runner-up.

well i own a wii a ps3... and its the best game so far this year.

it depends on what you like. i for one prefer nintendo over sony and microsoft,
(i am not a fanboy) so i wold prefer zelda: TP Super mario galaxy, and SSBB.
but my brother prefers microsoft, so he likes halo and gears of war.
my dad prefers sony, so he likes MGS4 and resistance.
we all have different opinions, so you should respect them all, too

I agree that is too early for a GAME OF THE GENERATION label, but so far I think it is the best game of the current gen.

I also understand if someone has a diferent choice, but there could only be one or two other games that can be compared to this one.

But two things that are undeniable are that:

- In the visual field; This is the better looking game ever (ok considering that no graphics from previous generations can compare to this one's except for the Wii ones and that games coming next year will look better).

- In the story part; this is without question the best story game of this gen, and one of the best of all time, but the way that the whole story is told in this game, the cinematics, the interaction in the cinemas, the plot twists, and the blending of information with the previos Metal Gear games, make the BEST "SORY TELLING" IN A VIDEO GAME EVER MADE.

Agreed. 100%. I don't know if this game will even get topped this generation although I said the same thing about Gears of War. It is deffinitly up there with the best games I've ever played. Anybody on here who said it may have been the best "cinematic" experience this generation has obviousley not played it. Find the skip button then we'll speak.

yeah like: Bioshock, SMG, Portal, COD4, SSBB, GTA IV, GeoW, Uncharted or maybe even Oblivion.

So it's in the top 10 games of this gen. Place it where you want to, but it is not at place 1 IMO

I would give MGS 4 best game of 2008. Oblivion and COD 4 are great games also for this gen.

I think this is the most unique game this generation and it is personally one of my favorite. I have all three consoles and all of there best games and it think the top three games on the 360 are bioshock, gears, and orange box. Ps3s are resistance, uncharted, and mgs4, and wiis are smg, mkwii, and brawl. All of the consoles have good games that seperate them from the competition. Mgs4 was a game that seperated itself from gaming in general. Its one of the best games ive ever played and its right up there with bioshock smg and uncharted as the best games this gen.
