Forums - Sales - Chains of Olympus hits the million... what can we learn from this?

The DS may also have a few million sellers not on the list because certain types of casual games aren't as easy to track.

That being said, DS games are very cheap to produce so the hundreds of games with less than a million sales probably also made lots of profit for small and large developers.

Well from what we know ( from late 06 data ) DS developemtn is roughly half of PSP development . Back then developing a PS2 game was ~ 1 million a PSP game ~ 600k and a DS game ~ 300k . Shore the price probably dropped for both since then ...

The only thing we can learn, that the game probably would be already at 2 or 3million without piracy.

About piracy, I was thinking what if you have to use a code when you start your game, you can find that code in your manual. And you can only play the game if you have that code.

That would solve the piracy problem right?

Uhm... we used that system a long time ago on the PC... where we got a complete list with all codes together with a illegal copy of the game on a floppy from a friend...  so that didn't work...

What have we learned?

- That Nintendo isn't the only company who can move first party titles.

- That 3-5 hour games can sell decently.

- That a game with sales (bought and pirated) of around 2-3 million on a console with a 37 million userbase isn't terribly assuring for GOW3 on the PS3 which doesn't even have half of that at the moment.

Erm... God of War has only sold 3 million with it's highest selling game.

If the PS3 version comes anywhere close (2 million), it'd definitely be fine.  I don't think anyone is expecting God of War 3 to outsell God of War, as God of War 2 hasn't even done it yet, and the original one is selling so well only because it is budget priced.

I hope you washed your ass before presenting these number, if not, I am not touching them. As for your idea, well it was tried and failed, not counting the fact that you are pissing off the one who actually pay for the game with thse method, not everybody like to be treated as criminal just because some asshole pirate game.

That God of War is awesome and if the developers actually try they can make a great selling game?

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Well it all depends. They could try and pull-off a Killzone-Killzone 2 act, where the sequel thankfully for the hype and quality previews might sell much more than the previous versions...

The God of War Franchise is fantastic, I don't see much of an achievement. God of War III will also sell great.
