There's too many people that already have a 360 that aren't wanting to jump ship. They also know that Microsoft is either shelling out money or good at convincing companies to go into a platform that has sold more. So basically, Sony is talking about their exclusives because they know Microsoft can't buy those. |
While I do agree with you, doesn't that strategy seem a bit.....nostalgic? Didn't Nintendo pretty much adopted that kind of strategy during the N64 and Gamecube days? That didn't seem to go too well....

There's a difference. In the N64/GC days, Nintendo had almost no 3rd party support at all. They relied almost solely on their own internal titles. With the ps3, Sony still has plenty of 3rd party support in the form of multiplats, and it's up to the 1st party titles to simply differentiate their console from the 360.

Yeah that is true. However, there is a problem with that.....sadly it is the price. Yes, the PS3 share most of their 3rd party games with the 360 (now including FFXIII) except for a few exclusives. But to say that you are going to differentiate yourself with first-party games is a dangerous territory for them because their system is already that much higher than the 360.
Except for dedicated gamers who want all of the experiences or fans of a certaing gaming company, it is hard to convince people that your system is better when the opposing company has the same multiplats, the same genre exclusives but it is cheaper.
For example, for every Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, there is a Halo 3 and Gears of War 1, and 2. For every Ratchet and Clank and LBP, there is a Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata. Know where I am going with this?
Even though I am gonna get my PS3 someday (once I have the time), it seems like a very difficult task for Sony to differentiate itself from the 360 AND still be inticing at the same time. That is just my two cents though...
