Forums - Sony - Kaz Hirai would take a bullet to the head over an xbox 360 exclusive

That was such a loaded question.

Good thing he didn't answer, or his words would have been twisted; I can see it now:

"Kaz Hirai unsure of PS3s future, wants Gears of War 2 on the PS3 or he's leaving!"

Nice job DMeisterJ, you beat me to it.

If Kaz had agreed to take any 360 exclusive, it would have definitely been spinned to look like the ps3 is about to die!

Exactly what I was saying

no the best answer would have been

not that we need it but i know with its limited library taking the halo series would be a great blow to the 360s line up....

you get to answer the questions while making your comp look inferior to you.....

it was a stupid question to begin with, some stupid reporter trying to create a "gotcha" moment. This was just his way of dodging the question.

...although personally i probably would have said something along the lines of I would love to see any/ever game on the ps3 because the ps3 is the best place for gamining blah blah blah.

He was just being difficult.

The problem is that his answer says he would rather take a bullet to the head then bring another great game to the PS3. He can think the PS3 doesn't need anymore titles all he wants but more games to choose from is never a bad thing..where as a bullet to the head is always a bad thing.

Obviously he didn't want to acknowledge that the 360 had anything worth having because for whatever reason giving them credit is a horrible thing in his mind, which is of course just childish.

He could have just said "We love what is being done in the Gears of War franchise and it looks like a great title. But we still feel that [marketing BS blah blah blah] only on PS3." And if he says that its a minor blurb at best and most likely a positive thing as people marvel at his ability to not be an enslaved marketing zombie.

I think the interviewer was just being difficult.

He was granted an audience with a high profile member of a massive electronics company. Instead of just getting the current news about the PS3 and games he insists on pushing his luck and getting an answer to a loaded question, despite Kaz trying twice to divert the conversation away from exclusives and Microsoft.

The problem is that reporters can spin it to look that way, which clearly seems to have worked to some degree here. (People calling him arrogant etc.)

In my opinion choosing a 360 game would have been his worst option. It would have implied that Sony are lacking in some area of their games library for the PS3 and that they need another title. His job is to give Sony a facade of strength, not weakness. This has nothing to do with arrogance, or giving credit where it's due.

I think he diffused the situation pretty well, and refused to take the bait.

If he hadn't:

I can just Imagine how this thread would be titled now:

"Kaz really wants Halo on the PS3"

or

"Kaz admits they need Gears"

and the ensuing 360 fanboys reactions: "Sony fans are so jealous" and "you can't have it haha!" etc...

They just don't have the money to buy exclusives. They miss their PS2 days...

If I was Kaz, I would have said something similar. MS reps pick up on these things and recently have been taking cheap shots on Sony and Nintendo. had he given a name I can imagine a MS rep saying something like " As much as Sony wanting gears or Halo, it will never happen. It is wishful thinking".

It would show weakness and therefore the answer he gave was perfectly fine. It just shows, unlike MS having to buy out Exclusives from rival consoles, Sony can do without them. They don't need to result in this since they have plenty of their own in house devs bringing quality products to their console.

Nice one Kaz, you didn't fall for it. you should be given a pat on the back for holding your own!

Not quite, if a MS rep had tried to twist it like that we would be criticizing that comment instead of this one.

The MS  rep would be out of his mind to try and twist it to begin with, after Sony gives them some credit for them to try a move like that would be a huge negative PR hit?  And we both know that several of the pro-PS3 news sites would have picked up on the BS right away and then the other sites would follow and there would be a thread here on VGC just like this one.

To Each Man, Responsibility

There were ways he could've answered the question without making himself and Sony look arrogant. I've seen people from Microsoft and Nintendo answer questions like that without sounding desperate. To top it off some of the games MS mentioned are now coming to 360 now!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

He should have made a joke and said 'we want bioshock on the PS3....no wait....its coming baby!'

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Like I said, I don't think that he was being "difficult", but you can't lie and say that it wasn't a loaded question. It was!

We all know that anything that anyone says gets twisted in the media. So saying nothing is often the only recourse.

The only thing he could have said was "I admire what they guys over at [Game Company] are doing, and would be honored to have a game as good as [Game] on the PlayStation 3, but I am extremely happy with the PS3 lineup and what's coming, as every other PS3 owner is."

That could have still gotten twisted, but that's really his only recourse.
