I think the interviewer was just being difficult.
He was granted an audience with a high profile member of a massive electronics company. Instead of just getting the current news about the PS3 and games he insists on pushing his luck and getting an answer to a loaded question, despite Kaz trying twice to divert the conversation away from exclusives and Microsoft.
The problem is that reporters can spin it to look that way, which clearly seems to have worked to some degree here. (People calling him arrogant etc.)
In my opinion choosing a 360 game would have been his worst option. It would have implied that Sony are lacking in some area of their games library for the PS3 and that they need another title. His job is to give Sony a facade of strength, not weakness. This has nothing to do with arrogance, or giving credit where it's due.
I think he diffused the situation pretty well, and refused to take the bait.
If he hadn't:
I can just Imagine how this thread would be titled now:
"Kaz really wants Halo on the PS3"
or
"Kaz admits they need Gears"
and the ensuing 360 fanboys reactions: "Sony fans are so jealous" and "you can't have it haha!" etc...
