Forums - Sales - You know what I find odd (Wii topic)

Is that I only know 2 people owning a Wii. I know tons of people that own a 360. 1 person that owns a PS3. So I went to a Skate shop yesterday and they had 3 wii's in there shop. I have also heard that a lot of other stores have Wii's you can just hang out and play. So do you guys think that stores like that have a lot to do with the console sales? Like a big part of the Wii sales? Do you guys know a lot of people that own a Wii?

I know of...

seven people who have a Wii in my office

one person who has a 360

nobody in the office has a PS3

about 1/2 of the people in the office (about 30 staff here) have a DS

5 have a PSP

hardly anyone in the office gets their game on with a computer - not that they don't play games, just that they go to LAN cafes to play. This mainly has to do with the fact that people normally don't invite others to their homes, as apartments are pretty small here, and for social events people prefer to get together in neutral ground - Karaoke bar, LAN cafes, cinemas, etc.

I think it's just a matter of having as many people as possible with hands on experience. Obviously a store environment is ideal for this. The user experience is the most important marketing tool Nintendo has, moreso than any commercial or advertisement.

I was the only person i knew who had a wii from launch until Feb. I kept bringing it to my friends to see if they would enjoy it, and i encouraged them to find one if they liked it. 4 different people i know ended up getting one because of this. I only know 3 people with a 360, although i'll probably get one when lost odyssey comes out, and i was the only person i knew with a PS3 (knew one other person who is saving up for one). Where i live not many people game except on PC so there are no Wiis in stores because honestly i dont think many people would care either way. That sounds like a neat idea though. im curious to see how many people have seen them in retail non-gaming stores. In northern Canada though i havnt seen any that weren't in EB games. Even our Wal-Mart and Zellers dont have demo machines.

Wii = 3.38m America.
360 = 6.38m America.

That's probably a big reason you see few people who have 'em.

You also likely know more people who are of the "14-24" age group, which is where 360 has its greatest strength against Wii.

Meanwhile, your mother probably knows many people who are beyond that age group - which would explain their greater interest in Wii.

Lastly, no, the stores have little/nothing to do with it. Wii has large amounts of sales that are non-America, especially compared to 360.

I found that Wii kinda spreads like wildfire. Once one person has it, everyone who plays theirs also wants one.

See it may only be my school but almost everyone has a 360. Then again we live in the 3rd largest city in the world for Video games.

personally, I have 6 friends who own Wiis.
I have one friend with an Xbox360.
I have never seen a PS3 outside of a box. My friend's fiancé's brother has one.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I personally no zero people with a PS3. I have never seen one outside of a box, even though I sell them :p

I know three people that own xbox360s

I know four people that own Wiis.

Just my anecdotal evidence!

 Are you implying that the 360 is synonymous with video games, while the Wii is not?
