better games? hardcore gamers?
XDDDD you make me laugh ^_^ all it has are hardcore games, and it doesn't have 'better' games...all you can say is 'good' games..
'better' is an opinion...I think Ds games are better, but it's not what he asked for
the DS has MORE games..MORE hardcore games than the PSP, sells better, will live longer, will continue to grow in games More =/= better , dont forget that , just because the DS has tons of crappy cooking games it doesnt means that its library is better ...
as for graphics...who cares?...besides that..the PSP is really fragile..while the DS is really sturdy and better protected (essential for handhelds)
lol , now this comment was the worst . Your pathetic , you know why ? Because it seems that this far almost 37 million gamers cared more about graphics than "original" controls scheme and pre-PSone graphics ...
and the DS has better battery life.. >_< (way better)
Way ? Your joking right ? With NSMB on full screen light I could barely get 6 hours out of my DS ... I have no issues geting 4.5hours with every setting on max from my PSP when I play games like CoO ( yes I can finish it in a battery :P )
I understand you're a PS fan ^_^'' but please think realistically?
look..the PSP is really awesome: homebrew, multi media, bigger screen(good for movies)
but if you honestly look at the games...and you want good ones..they are few and far between...
Again , this is an opinion ... there are ~ 5 DS games tat I find to be extremly atractive to me and ~ 25-30 PSP games ... so yeah , you know whats my point . |
But all in all I agree with Aj_habfan . The only choice a handheld purchaser has to make is which company he likes more : Sony or Nintendo ... the DS and PSP are two extremly different handhelds , and luckily for us , consumers we have some pretty good options to choose from :)

Once again, whats with all the DS fans posting in here? the origninal poster wanted reasons to buy a PSP, he set up a separate thread to discuss the merits of the DS.
I'm finding the info on the PSP here really useful, the PSP bashing by DS fans isn't helping. stick to the DS thread!

Some multi-media benefits of the PSP:
- Movies (beautiful screen)
- Music
- Photos
- Skype with camera too
- Mapping programs for just about every major city in the world
- SatNav for both driving and walking (much cheaper than a stand alone SatNav)
- Remote access to your PS3
- Internet through Wi-fi
- Lots of ways to personalise it (from the colour you chose, to the themes and sounds)
- Connect to a TV for watching movies
- Modding (if you're into it), there's a wealth of other possibility with that, although i've never found the need to.
- Really good games (and getting better all the time), on UMD, and PSNetwork/PS1 emulation without even hacking it.
Gaming mentioned last just because its been said by so many other people above.
Some of the above you would need to buy add-ons for (such as the Camera and GPS reciever) but it does give you such a wide range of options.
Let us know if you do decide to get one.

I don't want to get into this big war here, but I do want to clear this up.
Here are the technical specs of the PS, and the DS.
PS
Cpu- 32-bit RISC running at 33.8688 MHZ
Main Ram: 2 MB
Video Ram: 1 MB
GPU: Maximum of 16.7 million 24-bit colors, This also handles all of the 2d graphics production, and transformed polygons. Everything else is done by the Cpu.
DS
CPU- TWO arm processors, one clocked at 66mhz, and the other clocked at 33 mhz.
Main Ram- 4 MB
Video Ram- 656KB
Effects the ds could pull of that the PS cannot. Some of these the N64 couldn't even do. Transform and Lighting, texture mapping, alpha blending. The ds does Anti-Aliasing better than the PS, and even does more polygons. The lighting is better, and I will show you some examples of games that pass all of what the PS had to offer, and most if not all of what the Nintendo 64 had to offer.
Moon

This looks comparable to some pc games at the time.Show me a PS1 fps that is coparable. Matter in fact show me an N64 fps that isn't perfect dark that is comparable.
How about we compare Final Fantasy's on both platforms.

I could go on if you wish. I would adress the rest of your post, but this thread seems to have gone down to flame wars, and I don't want to join it.
@NNN Tell me what RPGs are you referring too?

To bad that the texture filtering is ... well lets just say bad . The textures are extremly pixelated when compared to N64 or PSone graphics . Dont you think that I get intimidated by some technical data copy/pasted out from Wikipedia ;) Just to give you a couple of examples for the PSones graphical supremacy ( or in worst case graphical = ):

Oh , and just because Moon looks good this far it doesnt prooves nothing untill its released , as far as I can tell those screens could be pre-rendered or the gameplay could run at 10fps ...

You do know that half of the games you showed me have pre-rendered environments right? Examples are FFVII, Tekken and most other fighting games, and of course the only thing grandturismo loads are the car models and tracks, everything else is pre-rendered. I could show games with pre-rendered enviroments too. Look

Here are some games that actually render their environments.

Right Click >Press view image.

Show me a PS FPS comparable to either Moon, or Core, Or even Dementium.
As for the textures looking pixelated, it is far less noticable on a smaller screen. ALso the ds' higher polygon count, more colors, better lighting alone make up for the slightly worse textures. Not to mention the ds has yet to be pushed to its limits, and already has some better looking games than the ps1s offerings. I would say the closest game out of the images you shown was the first one with the some impressive lighting, but thats about it. The ds was already said to be comparable to the N64 by Nintendo and Many 3rd parties. The n64 was more powerful than the ps1 by a good amount so we should see this too on the ds. Also as for Moon being pre-rendered. Even if it is, which I doubt, you showed me plenty of games that have pre-rendered environments.
I have both but for some reason I prefer DS for its huge library and the innovation but still PSP is a good multimedia device.
