Forums - Nintendo - Do Nintendo really never make new games?

Is it my imagination or is Nintendo in a no win situation here ...

When Nintendo doesn't make a game from a series for a generation (Metroid-N64, Donkey Kong-Gamecube) people say they're ignoring their fans by not producing certain IP ...

When Ninteno makes a game for a series in every generation (Mario, Zelda) people say that Nintendo is ignoring their fans by not producing New IP ...

When Nintendo makes a game based on a New IP (Nintendogs, Brain Training, Electroplanktin) people say that Nintendo is ignoring their fans by not producing New Core Gamer IP ...

When Nintendo makes a game based on a New IP designed to appeal to the Core gamer audience (Disaster: Day of Crysis) people say Nintendo is ignoring their fans by not producing games in High Definition ...

Yup. And if they introduce High Def, then it doesnt play BR movies. The point is: No matter what, these people will find something wrong with Nintendo.

past withstanding, what new things nintendo coming out with? the controller is super old tech and in design absolutely sucks (there i said it, and im happy about it). they are bring out stuff that is absolutely just rehashes or remakes or direct sequels.

ms is doing a few things. shadow run is testing the fps waters and it seemed to have done it well, but other things were off in design. they are building a good online community and helping small devs get some stuff out there.

sony is doing a good deal more. they are experimenting in all kinds of places. home is the most innovative community feature i have ever seen. lbp is defining user creation. folklore is heading in a beautiful direction for art. motorstorm made racing fun instead of super realistic.

show me how nintendo is using their amazing ip's to do new stuff and then people might listen to you.

...

you have no idea do you?

thank god for Sony, arcade racers never existed before Motorstorm. Online communities never existed before Home. Nice looking games never existed before Folklore.

Oh let's not forget Microsoft, FPSs never existed before shadowrun, online games never existed before Live.

You have to be joking. How can you possibly say that Motorstorm is innovative and the Wii remote is just old boring tech? That everything Nintendo does is just a rehash or a sequel, yet somehow all Sony and Microsoft games are fresh and new? I cannot begin to fathom the thought process that goes on in your head. Have you even PLAYED any Nintendo games? How is Wii Sports a rehash or a sequel?

When I think about it seems like a DUH but I forgot about it. The internet is the place for complaining about nothing. Nintendo gives us what we want. We just want more.

yea arcade racers with real physics that were fun didnt really exist before motorstorm. 3d communities which are for communitypurposes only (unlike second life) havent existed.  yay for generic looking game from everyone #100000000 that only tries to look real.  nothing has artistically impressed me since okami before folklore.  please show me otherwise.

Cause ms doenst have halo the third big console fps (after goldeneye and perfect dark).  console online never really existed before live.  ms is branching out, slowly but surely.  but they do have unbelievably tight roots in western rpg's and fps which is hurting them as sales will show you.

i never said the wiimote is boring tech, I just said you guys make it seem like the second coming of jesus when its already in a video game console.  It has an absolutely horrid design and button placement.  the only good thing it does is put the b button in a good place, but that was so hard.   I never said that all ms and sony stuff is new.  halo 3 for sure isnt.  ratchet isnt.  heavely sword doesnt seem that way.  they, sony more than ms, are trying new stuff, but at elast both are trying.

wii sports is so boring.  Oh, I know!  let's take all these sport game that are trying to be fun and realistic and tone them down it the absolute minimum.  people are so stupid that its all they could handle.  genius!  its so much more fun to, you know, play the sport (except bowling, but i didnt play that yet).  i guess as a video gamer you seem to never have been outside.  most other video gamers have, you should try it.

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

Erm, yes they did. Unless all my time playing Daytona, Sega Rally, Need for Speed, Ridge Racer, Project Gotham, etc were just a dream? I'm sorry, of all games you can claim are innovative, Motorstorm has to be the absolute worst pick of the lot. It is a simple arcade racer, nothing more, nothing less. A game that has been done thousands of times in many different variations. Nothing new about it.

3d communities which are for community purposes only? You mean like second life? Oh no, apparently it doesn't count... Of course, any game can be innovative if you ignore the games that came before it. Please explain how Home is different to second life in some incredbly innovative new fashion? Oh wait, you can't. Because it's not.

As for folklore, there are plenty of games with artistic merit. Wind Waker is a prime example. I believe it is the best looking game ever made. Personal opinion, just like you say about folklore. To me, Folklore looks a lot like Neverwinter Nights. Of course, that's personal opinion. But claiming that it's innovative is almost as ridiculous as Motorstorm.

Yes MS has Halo, so what? Just another FPS. They have live? So what? It existed before, MS just brought it to the consoles. Of course, online consoles existed before the Xbox, remember the Dreamcast? Yes, that's right, it had online play. MS is branching out, slowly but surely, but Nintendo has already branched out and has its fingers in more genres than any other company and is creating new ones all the  time.

I still don't get what your point is. You are here not arguing the original point of the thread, but you say that Nintendo doesn't innovate. And pointing to Motorstorm as an example of how Sony does? How are these games more innovative than Wii Sports, Brain Training, Pikmin, Animal Crossing?

Oh of course, the random "Wii Sports is simplistic" attack. Oh and then the "nerdy white guy who never goes outsde" attack. Hey, look, you were there saying how good Home is, and now you're saying Wii sports is bad because real tennis is better? Am I the only one who sees how stupid this is? You can go outside and be human and talk to other people in the real world! No need to do it on your PS3! ZOMG USELSESS!!! Here's a hint, many games are based on things you can go out and do in the real world, yet they sell anyway. If you don't like Wii sports, then good for you. Claiming that Motorstorm is somehow newer and more innovative has to be one of the stupidest things I have seen coming out of any post on this forum (and that includes some of the doozies that Blue3, larry et al put out).

Funnily enough, Wii Sports IS genius. after all, it's the main reason why the Wii is the fastest selling console in video games history. Yes, I have played all the sports that feature (well, I've played mini-golf), but I don't have a tennis court in my backyard. So if you want to go and insinuate that I've never been outside due to the fact that I enjoy Wii Sports (like many others), then go ahead, if it makes you happy. But you're kidding yourself if you think it's somehow not new.

Some remarks

Fire Emblem is OLD ,tracking back to the Nes days .

Two ,Nintendogs is a copy of Pet in Tv of the Playstation 1 .

Three ,Wario Ware is a copy of Bishi Bashi in Playstation 1 .

Four ,Advance Wars and Batallion wars are nearly the same game in portables and home consoles .

Five ,Big Brain Academy and Brain Training are as different as Jak and Daxter 1 and 3 respectively .Not two different IP at least in my book .

Six ,Cooking Mama isnt from Nintendo but from Majesco .

Seven ,Eternal Darkness is from Silicon Knights .

I am not saying Nintendo hasnt created any new IP (it has ,as Pikmin or the new Metroid ) but lets not exxagerate we cant count each Brain Training game as a different IP .In fact most of these minigames and Training games were played way before ,in the newspapers quizs ,electronic sudokus etc ....Nintendo has just turned that a videogame and received the benefits of all those casual gamers .

I clearly stated new IPs, not new genres. Let's look at all the genres Microsoft created:

1) ...

and how about those Sony created?

1) ...

So don't be ridiculous. The only claim we are testing here is whether Nintendo only ever relies on their old proven franchises (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon) and never releases games using new IPs. We're not talking about the styles of games since mario is in many different types (compare mario kart with super mario) but the franchises that are being created. And I believe no other company even comes close to Nintendo.

To begin with Sony created 3 new genres recently ,Singstar ,Buzz and Eye Toy .And Little Big Planet ,Eye of Judgement  and Afrika will be new genres as well .And lets not talk about new Ip or franchises .....Shadow of the Colossus ,Ico ,God of War ,Resistence ,Motorstorm ,Jak and Daxter ,Ratchet and Clank ,Sly Racoon ,Heavenly Sword ,Lair ,Socom ,Primal ,Gran Turismo etc etc .Nintendo I dont see it to create new genres(maybe Donkey Konga ?)  ,they just recicle things again and again .New IP of course we can find some as Pikmin or the new Metroid or Batallion Wars but they are hardly "new genres " .Nintendo copies just as much as other companies (even more I would say ) but nintendo fans just dont seem to notice it .I mean ,there was a montion sensing consoles as the XaviX before the Wii but for nintendo fans the Wii is the most innovative device ever ,there was games as Bishi Bashi or Pet in Tv in the PS1 that Nintendo ripped off to come with its minigames and nintendogs but nintendo fans just dont know those games so for them that doesnt count ,Nintendo just adapted the Brain trainer device  of Kawashima and Sega to the DS but for Nintendo fans thats the pinnacle of innovating and creating new genres and Ips ......

I don't see WarioWare as a copy of Bishi-Bashi. Bishi-Bashi was originally an arcade game, and was later ported to the PS1. It was made by Konami, and is not Sony IP.

Besides, if you start counting mini-games as a basis for copying ideas, we can go all the way back to the original Track and Field series, which was done by - surprise! - Konami; arguably, Bishi-Bashi is just Hyper Sports/Track and Field without the athletic setting (although you can immediately see where some of the more classic "pie-toss" events from Bishi Bashi Special play exactly the same as the Javelin event from Track and Field).

I said in the PS1 ,not created for Sony for the Playstation one .If you prefer this ,Nintendo inspired themselves in Konami not on Sony in this one .

More successful new IPs mean more sales for them, why should I give them credit for going for that? I would not like it if they stopped making new ones entirely.

We can't consider Nintendo as we consider any other publisher, we gotta compare them to the other two console makers. MS and Sony are rolling out new IPs (1st and 2nd party) that have either already proven great or are looking like they will be good while Nintendo has 1 new hardcore IP that people know about.

Last generation they added Pikmin and Batallion Wars which was good because it was something they didn't have. They should do more of that. More IPs in different genres.

man your full of crapp sony has new ip,s comeing out the ass

Of course... Camera games never existed before Eyetoy... I'd better throw out all those free games I got with my webcam then.

Quiz games never existed before Buzz... Damn, and I thought You Don't Know Jack was so successful, I guess the developers would be interested to know their games don't exist!

And of course, Singstar was the first Karaoke game ever to be released! Sorry, Karaoke Revolution! Looks like you don't predate Singstar by 6 months like Wikipedia says, damn those lying wikipedia editors!

Of course, Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong didn't invent completely new genres. Clearly Brain Training wasn't as innovative as Buzz, wow how come no one thought of a quiz game till 2005? Oh wait, I forgot. You haven't got a clue what you're talking about (again). Apparently quiz games were out as early as 1995! How did they manage it without THE POWER OF THE CELL!!!?

try again
