Forums - Sales - First day sold in japan, Folks Soul bombs hard...

Bahhh... the problem with staying on topic is that the constant stream of bad news for the PS3 is now boring.... Once a PS3 game starts selling well again, everyone will have something to complain/cheer about again...

Am I alone when I get the feeling that every Sony fanboy must be younger than 20? I hate bringing ageism into the equation, but seriously ... I wonder if these jokers realize that playing Pac-Man for 15 minutes was "hardcore" in 1981!

Buying an NES with the R.O.B. bundle? As Weird Al would say: White & Nerdy!

// softcore and proud of it, apparently.

I don't think that age or overall maturity is really the most important factor ...

I do expect that a large portion of these gamers were introduced (or reintroduced) to gaming with the Playstation or PS2 after it was no longer such a geeky activity. Those of us who remember hanging out on BBS systems playing LORD and arguing over whether the SNES was better than the Genesis never really considered image to be that important when it came to gaming; on the other hand there are a lot of people who would have never admited to playing videogames until the Playstation or PS2 came along.

I could be wrong but I suspect that why many Sony fans are afraid of the non gamer games are very similar to the guys at the gym who are afraid to try Yoga. Even though it is popular they're afraid of how the activity will impact their reputation.

Well put, Happy. Those of us that grew up playing 2600, 5200, NES, etc. don't really care what games people play. We're geeks at heart. I also played D&D as a kid, so shoot me.

I blame Madden and Sony for this generation of gamers. They just don't realize that they're in an extremely geeky hobby and geeks are rather eccentric and *ahem* "diverse", to put it nicely.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

Whoever brought up L.O.R.D I'm annoyed at you, as I'm suddenly compelled to download a copy and kill that damn red dragon!. I'm not limited to 15 fights in the forest on my own computer!

Weird how much I like a game I played when I was like 8. Or remember from it. "You killed the Pink Elephant. What do you know? He was real"
"An old man hits you with an Ugly Stick and runs away giggling"
Though I forget what gems are for without any modifications. I know plenty of mods used them.

See Ya George.

I am not saying that your gaming preference is wrong but for fucking sake grow up and realise that you aren't the only gamer in the world!

Thank you for saying what I've been wanting to say here for six months, but with a far greater economy of words.

You are welcome, I might have been a bit hard yesterday night. But I had just come home from the old style  classic real life swedish game: get drunk during the midsummer party...

@Thread

Never would I have belived that my thread about sales would end up 6 pages long...of course it is totaly out of topic...

Never played L.O.R.D or any of the other games you have been talking about. I entered gaming on a NES more or less one year before SNES arrived (or something similar). What type of game is it? Arcade fighting or what are we talking about.

I also agree strongly with you, Happy. I'd add another thing: I think most of these fans we're talking about believe that if games were made even more badass, with better graphics, more explosions, and lots more Aliens to kill, then all the casual players would suddenly "get it," and love the same games that hardcore gamers do. Generally, they refuse to believe that their version of "cool" is not what everyone else thinks is cool. It's like the pothead in high school who thought that everyone else would be a pot head if they could just relax and let go. If someone wasn't a total pothead, it's because they were too stressed out and caught up in the modern world; he wouldn't admit that other people simply had different tastes.

Lord was a text based game hosted on BBS (Bulletin Board Systems) Where you made a charecter, male or female, and largely by chance, went in a forest, fought, gained experience and gold, leveled up by beating a master, bought new weapons and Armour, with the goal of eventually beating the Red Dragon. There were classes with special abilities as well.

Mods were made, other areas to visit, new enemies, new weapons etc, but basically you logged in every day, posted messages, went to the forest, hit A about 15 times a fight, then went back to town, flirted with some random people for charm, and went about your normal day till tommorow. This is all text.

LOL, L.O.R.D. - ... its been a LONG time.

I used to dial up, and play on a couple of BBS's every night. The other one I played was a little RPG called "Arrowbridge" (I'll be impressed if anyone here knows of it) - on Arrow BBS, run in Australia (the guy who ran the BBS also wrote the game).

My highlight with LORD, was working out withg my mate how to kill the dragon TWICE in ONE night. Killed it, restarted the game (level 1), worked my way up back up to level 10(?) - then killed it again - in the same night.

However, we managed to uncover a REALLY annoying bug - a flag gets set that says you killed the dragon during the night - and doesn't get reset properly, so it was impossible to fight the dragon again (on the same day).

(If there is anyone who doesn't believe this, I assure you it was more than possible - by using a friends account as well, and killing him to get good items off him. It remains the highlight of my BBS days... :>).

I can assure you Shams that, THAT was not a bug.  It was purposefully setup that way so that anyone entering into the game would see that you killed the Dragon.  Your name was highlighted on the list of Dragon Slayers and you were to be honoured for that day.

Also...  where are the Barren Realms Elite fans???  Am I one of the only one's who loved that game to death?  Obviously I couldn't have been the only one who loved it as the game I ran went all across North America.  At night my BBS was constantly doing BRE updates for all the BBS's we had in the league...  awesome game....
