I don't think that age or overall maturity is really the most important factor ...

I do expect that a large portion of these gamers were introduced (or reintroduced) to gaming with the Playstation or PS2 after it was no longer such a geeky activity. Those of us who remember hanging out on BBS systems playing LORD and arguing over whether the SNES was better than the Genesis never really considered image to be that important when it came to gaming; on the other hand there are a lot of people who would have never admited to playing videogames until the Playstation or PS2 came along.

I could be wrong but I suspect that why many Sony fans are afraid of the non gamer games are very similar to the guys at the gym who are afraid to try Yoga. Even though it is popular they're afraid of how the activity will impact their reputation.

Well put, Happy. Those of us that grew up playing 2600, 5200, NES, etc. don't really care what games people play. We're geeks at heart. I also played D&D as a kid, so shoot me.

I blame Madden and Sony for this generation of gamers. They just don't realize that they're in an extremely geeky hobby and geeks are rather eccentric and *ahem* "diverse", to put it nicely.
