Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo's E3 furthers N's commitment to destroying the industry

Wait wait wait..... Did you just say Hey Nintendo take fun and shove it.... Pack your bags with your Mario, Zelda and Pokemon games(Along with Metroid and others) and get the heck out.... We don't want you making our games more interesting, artistic and innovative.... to appeal to way more people then they would of if they kept going at the same rate they were? WTH are you thinking??? I mean I admit I wasn't impressed by Nintendo's E-3 but that's a little overboard...

Boycotting the following:

1. Yoshi: He ate my car and spit out a toaster.

2. Igglybuff: Totally false advertisement. You can have as many as you like they don't buff nothing.

3. the Terms Hardcore/Softcore... We're talking Video Games. Not Porn.

4. The term Casual as relates to Gamers: We make them sound like outsider's that happen to play games.  If that were the case they'd own a PS3.

5. Donuts.... Beacause I drink Beer...... and the biggest fan of Donuts hates Beer.

6. Boycotts: Their so lame.

I think you people are missing his argument.

He is stating Nintendo is throwing away Zelda and Mario Platformer gamers for Mario Party, Wii Music, Wii Sports, and mini-game players.

That's not his argument at all.  No need to turn this into a "Nintendo is abandoning the core gamer".  He is talking about Nintendo ruining the industry by not striving for his own "cultured" artistic ideals.  You can't honestly tell me Super Mario 64 would qualify under that, can you?

If he honestly responds and agrees that Super Mario Sunshine has the "artistic merit" he was speaking of then an argument could be made that this is moreso about the Wii's shift from Nintendo's older style.

Ya, Mario 64 does have artistic qualities. Most games do. Even COD: World at War does. Art doesnt have to be Okami. Art can be a 3 year old making her first finger painting or for a 5 year old a brush painting.

But that would implied that even Wii-music is a form of art, allowing to more people to make music, and that would show that the OP was wrong from the beginnign...

He is clear about it, Ninty is destroying the industry, and after call us ignorants, uncultured, I think is clear that he is only pissed off... let me put you in this way, he believes that the videogames should imitate other forms of art in order to be like he wants to, but he fail to understand that other forms of art feature a huge amount of diversity... not everyone pulls out a "War and Peace", "Les Misérables", "100 años de soledad" every year, but you can be sure that as other ways of art, the videogame will cater a broaden audience (When an art just focus on a small group, it start to die)...

Keep in mind, I am agreeing this E3 wasn't great, but I also really don't like being hyped for a game that's 2 or 3 years from release. FFXIII is coming up on 2011 for North America for Christ's sake.

Like Reggie said in the interview after the conference, Nintendo doesn't show games until they have something substantial to show. That's just the way they do things now, and many of their biggest games are just announced when they feel like it. Look at Wario Land. If you consider that a casual game... well sir, you have issues.

I don't mind the focus on fun, but other than COD and GTA:DS (which is going to be horrible), everything was focused on 4 year olds. Maybe 5 year olds. Wii music where you don't even have to hit any buttons? Are you kidding?

Games that don't have blood, weapons, and at least three decapitations are for 4 year olds. You heard it here first, folks.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Well Nintendo's press conference did suck. Where was Zelda, where was Kid Icarus, where the f*ck was Pikmin? Instead we got 'casual' crap. If that is all Nintendo's announcements, then they have abandoned the hardcore, and the people who kept them alive in the GameCube era.

Quick question ... If Nintendo announced Zelda on an arbitrary Wednesday in the middle of the year what percentage of gamers who are really interested in the game will know about the game within the week?

The same can not be said about games like Wii Music or Wii Fit; there is one event of the year where the Mainstream media will pay close attention to ...

wow the sarcasm in this thread is saddening. You people must have never picked up a dovstoyevski or watched a Hitchock and don't want to see anything comparable in games either.

Dude your the guy that thinks MGS4 = Kant. When it really = bad anime in terms of storytelling.

People aren't going to take you seriously about this. There is art, and then there is stuff people mistake themselves as art because their are so many nonsensical and nonconnecting stuff in it that they have to draw the dots themselves because people feel the need to have something make sense to them.

Videogames have barely had a couple games scratch that... with the other "Great story" games reaching the level of about a sunday morning TV show level.

No he's not... I mean he's complaining about deep stories being lost.

Mario and Zelda aren't exactly your deep story games.

But it's 2D! 2D! All REAL games are in like 4D now.

It's at most... half a real game.

Where did I say anything close to that?  However, games where you hold a remote in front of your mouth and just move around ARE for 4 year olds, though.  Mario Galaxy was great fun for all ages.  So was Metroid.  But the stuff they showed today, for the most part, is marketed at kindergartners, and parents who want to entertain them.  Which there is a market for, and I'm fine with it that they are selling to that market, but I couldn't be less interested in it.  However, if the fanboys want to defend that these games are for all ages, be my guest.  I also have some toys from my 1 year old niece you might find interesting I could sell you.

Games with deep stories don't appeal to everybody. Nintendo is making games accessible to everybody with all kinds of interests.... That is far from Destroying the Industry.
