Poor DMeisterJ.

He's having a worse day than I did when the IGN review of GTAIV came out.

Lulz.

How am I having a bad day?  Today's an excellent day to be a 360 owner.  Again, simply, I'm trying to put everything in perspective without damage controlling, and exaggerating.

DMeisterJ.  No matter how many times people said it too me, I convinced myself that I was justified in my comments that day.  Maybe with other reviews I might have been but based on the IGN one, in hindsight, I was talking out of my ass.

You ARE in damage control.  Both in terms of real effect on console sales, brand power and momentum, todays announcement will have an enormous negative impact for Sony and a reasonably sizeable positive one for Microsoft.

How am I in damage control?  Saying "I'll probably buy it on 360" to "I may not even own a PS3" is damage control?  Trust me.  I'm not a spinner like you are.  I'm a realist.  This is a huge blow for Sony, but not humongous.  The game is still coming to the PS3, and in the market that it matters the most, it's exclusive to the PS3.

Copied from another thread:

The comparison I'm making is between what we could reasonably have expected if the game stayed exclusive and what we can reasonably expect now. From a sales perspective, all that matters now is if/where/ and for who this game pushes consoles.

To suggest that it wont is ridiculous. Take a glance around these forums. People are ALREADY saying their PS3's are going up for sale. Other's are saying their mind has been made up on their HD console of choice. PSrock has gone into meltdown mode and lost all hope of emotional survival (never a good sign).

The very fact that every internet forum still working has dozens of posters each declaring the PS3 wont catch the Xbox 360 this generation signals a shift in momentum, whether it is true or not. I don't care about sales of the game itself. They will be 65/35 total to the PS3, but the game will have sold a LOT more for having been multiplatform in the West. Whats important is that the West, parts of which love the Xbox 360 and the rest of which don't mind it, now have a far cheaper option (and one that is FAR more appealing for JRPG fans) for picking up FFXIII. An option they will adopt in droves.

Okay sure.

PS3 lost the console race because of Final Fantasy XIII.

I wish I could believe that.

Consider yourself de-idolized Starcraft.

It's alright dmeisterj you already steamrolled through denial (this entire topic) into anger(last few posts culminating with starcraft no longer being your idol ).

Later tonight you can bargain (or join the people who already are) by talking about "well at least the PS3 gets FF13vs".

Then you'll mope around during the depression phase and accept it later this week.

What's there for me to accept?  I said I'm buying it on the 360, and that I probably won't buy a PS3.

WTF R U talking about?

This is huge for the 360. Fact. The two biggest franchises for the Playstation family were Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy. Microsoft has those. Now Microsoft needs to work on the smaller stuff like Metal Gear Solid.

I guess the 360 is now the undisputed king of JRPGs this generation.  The Playstation has nothing good that the 360 doesn't have, and the 360 has all kinds of good JRPGs that the PS3 doesn't have.

Do I live in Japan? No. Do I want my PS3 right now? No.

There's no possible way to damage control this announcement. It's like Sony turning round and saying they have Halo 4 or something.

That would sell like shit on PS3 compared to what it would sell on 360.  The reverse is true w/ FFXIII.

Y'alls JRPGs don't sell well on 360, and do NOT move consoles in Japan sufficient to justify the purchases of exclusivity/presence on 360.

There we go.

Gran Turismo has sold more on the PS family than Final Fantasy on the PS.
