I'm more happy that the PS3 fanboys won't be happy...call me sad but I love it...big middle finger going out to all those who gloated about all the great FF love PS3 was getting :)

Wow. Classy.

I don't think there was anything wrong about PS3 fans being excited about the FF love just as I don't think there is anything wrong with Xbox fans being excited about this announcement.

Huge announcement. I'm reminded more and more every month about how much I hate having JRPG's spread over so many platforms(refering moreso about the exclusive games, not FF XIII). I miss the SNES/PS1/PS2 days where I could get all my RPG needs without spending ridiculous amounts of money.

So, to my understanding, it's only being released on the 360 in North America?

Why's everyone so excited about this? A game that everyone knew was coming out is also coming out on another console... er, yey?

Because for the longest time, it's been one of the only gaming related reasons and talking points to justify actually owning a PS3, and now there is no reason that I know of.

Did you just buy your PS3 in anticipation of FF XIII then? What about Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, etc?

I'm just trying to understand why this is so upsetting for PS3 owners as I myself don't like RPGs, the PS3 is still getting the game and it still has a load of great franchises including some exclusives. Plus it's a Blu-Ray player, has free online, you can put in any hard drive, it doesn't suffer from RRoD, etc.

Maybe PS3 owners will feel better in a few days once everything else has been announced...

How many people here are going to be shocked if, at the Sony press conference, the SE prez shows up, and announces that every supposedly exclusive game to the 360 in the SE lineup is also now coming to the PS3?

IMO, the MS press conference kinda stunk. Even this announcement was boring. I'm pretty certain that this isn't going to rock the boat much, as far as sales go -- except in the case of SE's sales, of course. I think this signals that they just won the big prize, with multi-platform HD goodness across the board.

Mate your living in total dream land. I know your a PS3 fanboy and your running damage control and that is fair play to you. But don't come on here saying this announcement was boring etc.. as it makes you look thick. This announcement is huge. Mega huge. A once strict loyal defender of the PS IP has just pretty much said "you know what Sony, f@~K you, we want out".

That means most likely no more exclsuivity to Sony from Square Enix. They pretty much just handed Sony's Ass on a plate to MS by having 2 excluives and 1 timed exclusive all to the 360. On top of that giving the 360 Sony's LAST A+ title. There is nothing now. And don't come out with the crap people come out with saying well we got God Of War, please... GOW2 sold 2m copies in total with a near 120m unit base....Halo 3 sold like 9m in under a year. There is fanboyism then there is stupidity. In terms of sales there is nothing Sony have now that can match FFXIII potential sales, and those sales have just been halved and then some. But the most important thing is what is to say FFXIV is not 360 exclusive? It doesn't looklike SE like Sony much does it?

So on top of that who is left to make all the RPG's for the PS3? By the looks of things the 360 has the RPG and JRPG genre all to itself. Games wise the PS3 is starting to look very very thin. Look at that Gears 2 play demo at E3. Then compare it to the Killzone 2 gameplay footage. KZ2 looks so boring and repetative compared to that. In the space of 5mins in Gears 2 you saw about 10 different monsters and about 15 different looking exteriours/interiours. KZ2 looks the same in that 10min footage. So i bet you will be one of those people who will come on here tommorow saying how great KZ2 looked in the Sony conference when it looked as generic as generic gets. Not a big deal? jeez...

Not gonna disagree with you that this announcement was huge, but Gears really didn't look that amazing or innovative. The graphics were stellar, but how you can say the gameplay was any less generic than Killzone or any other shooter based on that 5 minute clip is beyond me. The only really notable gameplay mechanic I saw was the human shield, and we've had that since Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3. I'm not saying the game isn't going to be fantastic, b/c I'm 99% sure it will be, but where you get off calling other people delusional fanboys when you throw out BS like that, I don't get.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Far too much gloating going on in this thread...

Some posters seem far more interested in riling up Sony fans rather then thinking of the repercussions of this announcement.

SE will obviously be able to make more money off a multi-platform release.

It does beg the question though: if SE had previously had a contract with Sony, how much money did Microsoft throw at SE to change the exclusivity state of this title? And will the money spent be recuperated?

If not, (and if Microsoft know it's not), then it's yet another sign that Microsoft are in the game business purely to disrupt Sony's dominance, and they are willing to pump obscene amounts of money out to achieve it.

This also shows the continuing trend of Japanese developers looking to the west to cover development costs for high profile games, and looking to the 360 which has a strong presence in NA as a source to do so.

In my opinion Sony saw this current state of the industry and the potential loss of future third party exclusives coming a long time ago. Hence the increasing of first party holdings etc.

I agree with you that both Sony and Microsoft made game development so expensive that multiplatform HD releases are the only way forward for most 3rd parties.

What I DON'T UNDERSTAND AT ALL is where the f*ck are Sony's games? They're one of the best game developers in the world and all we have seen that impressed even a bit were Uncharted and Ratchet. Sony really lost it.

Fuck!... Well, I enjoyed MGS4!!

Hmmm... I'm going to have to think this over for a day! Damn, fucking 5th dimension or something I'm living in right now!

How on bloody Earth could Sony have let this happen?!... fools! They better have something Big. And I Mean 'Bungie announces Halo 4 for PS3' Big!

They've shifted a lot of resources to their PSP line-up apparently.  A while back they announced a ton of games were in development and it's looking more and more like quite a few are PSP and not PS3.

What would be funny is if Nintendo also announced FF13 for Wii.

anyways, major props to MS to keeping this under wraps. I'm suprised they were able to keep this a secret and such a big one at that. MS isn't really known for keeping secrets :-p

That won't happen, but FF7 remake exclusive to Wii would be a dagger to PS3's heart. Kingdom Hearts 3 on Wii would also hurt, but at this point it is expected.

Seriously mate you must be stupid if you think Gears 2 looked generic. As i mentioned they had about 4 different weapons, 10 different bad guys that were varied in looks. They had wide open spaces where you had fire and things around the edges with hundreds of locust on screen. You could grab one and use it as a shield. You could knee cap one then stomp on it's head to finish it off. You could break the scenary as well as jump over it. The scenary seemed to fall apart with towers and things falling down. You could run across fallen bridges. You had buildings collapsing through stuff, you had a elevator ride through a burning building etc.. etc..

Where as the KZ2 gameplay was look up at wall, shoot. That was it...
