Forums - Gaming - God of War is like....?

Most people compare the three, because they are all hack and slashes. Zelda is an Action-Adventure. I do somewhat agree with your comparison though. God of War does have alot of puzzles, and Dungeon Crawling like Zelda, but there are many differences. The first one is mini games/Side Quests. Zelda has many of these especially in Majora's Mask. God of War doesn't have any of these, but that is ok since they are two different genres.
Another difference is that zelda uses more items in the puzzles, while god of war is more of pushing and pulling things.
Then you have the very different combat systems, which is relative to their genres.
Those are just some of the obvious ones that you haven't mentioned, but there are many more. I don't think Action games should be compared with Action-Adventures. God of war takes many different aspects from many different games, and puts it in one, so I think it compares to both. I forgot to mention that TP isn't a good representation of zelda games. Especially the 2d ones. The 2d zelda games were far less sectioned, and less linear. Its hard to compare anything to zelda, because almost every zelda game is different.

Off-Topic How are you enjoying TP? More than you were a few weeks ago? Where are you at? When you finish, and if you are interested in playing other games in the series I recommend Alttp(Excellent Gamplay, and made most of what zelda is like today, and Majora's Mask( A more charcter focused game, so if you like those then it may be your favorite. It is very depressing, and has a very good central theme)

No doubt that Zelda and GOW are very different. I just felt the comparison was valid and worthwhile because it helps flesh out why GOW is quite different from the games it is usually compared with.

As for how I'm liking TP: You know, I haven't gotten sucked in like the games in my sig, but at the same time I'm definitely not turned off from it. A somewhat minor thing that really pissed me off for a while were the little 10-15 second scenes that occur throughout the game when you do certain actions like calling the eagle or that big dark bird at Hylia. I finally figured out how to skip them though, so I'm much happier. I just beat the water temple at Lake Hylia and then got the Master Sword so now I can turn to a wolf whenever. I'm intrigued by this new ability as well as the introduction of Zant and the development of Midna and her relationship with Zant. I feel like I'm at the point where the game is really going to pull me in, so if it doesn't happen now, I wouldn't be surprised if I dropped the game. Majora's Mask sounds interesting, but I don't own an N64. Did they do any remakes for GC?

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

God of War is one of the few Action-Adventures where I can say that the puzzles fit perfectly in the game and are fun to solve. In Prince of Persia, for example, the puzzles are good, but they are sometimes pretty long and it can become sometimes a bit tedious. In Devil May Cry they simply detract from the game and arent fun at all.
On the button mashing part, I simply can't understand why anyone would say this. Since the combos are easier to execute than, say, DMC, you have to resort less to button mashing. In fact, I never button-mashed in God of War, as the combos are easy enough to execute that they let you plan what you're doing. Sure, the game perhaps can be beaten with square-square-triangling all the time, but what's the point when you can do everything easy enough?

I can't speak of Zelda, though. I've only played Ocarina of Time, and didn't like it very much

@Jman8 Yep you are just about at the point where the game starts getting faster paced. Oh and yes majora's mask was remade for the gamecube, but it would be cheaper to buy an N64 and Majora's mask. Also some people had glitches where the collector's edition would freeze.
It also has ocarina of time, the first and second zeldas and a windwaker demo.

Yeah, the comparison really falls apart with the open world of Zelda. I've only played Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. In WW, the world seemed very important to me. At least so far in TP, the game has been solely driven by the dungeons and the collecting light sections. Honestly, IMO so far the game could drop the open world structure and go to a level structure and not suffer one bit.

It gets more open world after this. Especially when you start to get into areas like the Gerudo Desert, and Snow mountain. Also you don't get anymore light bugs( I forgot what they were called) after this. ALso things like finding heart peices, and secret areas fit more into the open world aspect.

I prefer Devil May Cry over all, it just feels like it takes more skill to me, and I like the stylish combat. Am not sure which I like more between GoW and NG, but they are both awesome IMO. I like the Greeky and highly epic affects of GoW, Kratos is a major badass, and.... well... Ninja's RULE!!

If I had to call it it would have to be

DMC > GoW > NG

No offense to NG fans at all.

i agree with you in some point,it does use puzzle solving alot,i think its a like dmc/ng and zelda put together, but leaning a bit ore on the dmc/ng part

Couldent have described it better :D The big difference between GoW and DMC/NG is basicly a bit slower based gameplay ( but often more brutal ) but a fra superior story and setting IMO . The style of the game also beats the other twos IMO ...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

I like all three of them but i think that god of war series is a little better and god of war 3 is gonna be great.

God Of War is good. But saying it's a puzzler is just silly. The puzzle elements are distracting at best. The big bosses and combat is where it's at. It's better than DMC but not as good as NG 1 or 2. But c'mon puzzler is wrong. The game would be better without them. At least I think so anyway.
