You know about the PS4, Xbox 3, and N6. Well spill it, although I may not want to know if they don't touch the PS2 haha.
Seriously people its the current generation. Next generation is a hoax and lie that has been dead since November 2005.
Now I'll comment and agree, simply because we haven't seen complete dominance like the PS2 did. Wii is dominating, no doubt, but not that kinda domination.
Would not even compare them the Wii is far more successfull than the Ps2 -
The Wii has beaten every yearly sales record ever !. It will easily be over 40Million by the end of this year and well on the way to 50million !
It will have outsold the Ps1 within 2 years and the Ps2's LTD salws record will fall in 3 years at most. Wii is selling ~30million each year and pulling back 3rd party developers at the same time.
The XBox360 and Ps3 are doing ok but nintendo's Wii allready owns this generation.
PS3 number 1 fan

You're so right :p
Wy do people insist on using the term 'next-gen', when talking about today's consoles. They're OBVIOULSY NOT next-gen, seeing as they're the consoles of THIS CURRENT generation. :p Geez people, get over it!

I remember when Activision said that 1,000,000 units sold was the threshold for them to develop for a platform and that the Odyssey2 was on their horizon.
My point? Absolute sales numbers mean nothing, relative potential for profits is what the various publishers look at. If any one (or two) of the platforms fall far enough back in sales, software development will go more exclusively for the leaders. In the case of the oddball nature of the Wii-mote, that could be the "kiss of death" for the lesser platforms.
It's not at all about sustainable sales, but about maximum profit potential. #3 will see lower and lower sales, lower and lower potential...
The PS3 is doing just as good as the PS2 did, look at hardware from launch. Wii is doing amazing but it's starting to slow now. PS3 is picking up.
Like comon look at this line up of AAA games
Tekken 6, resistance 2, LBP, motorstorm 2, gran turismo 5, afrika, infamous, GoW3, Killzone 2, resident evil 5, wardevil and more(i got 2 lazy 2 contineu 2 say the rest)
in sales numbers it will be the wii in games you are right there
but, we don't know what will happen in the next gen, but we know what will this gen
The Wii doesn't support DVD playback. Its a unique phenomenon that almost defies being lumped in with the HD consoles. The other machines are living room devices with titanic amounts of rich content available from a zillion sources, whereas the Wii has a few games.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the only reason the 360 and the PS3 have not done as well as the Wii thusfar, is that the market is already saturated with DVD players (a great many of them being PS2s). I hate to lump myself in with the "Wii is a fad" crowd, because I *don't* think the Wii is a fad... that would be like calling gaming a fad, which it sure isn't! It's obviously a market growing by leaps and bounds, and the Wii is certainly the market leader in many regards.
Yet... I don't believe it will never reach PS2 status. It will never tromp the competition like the PS2 did. In a sense, the PS2 occupied a unique slot in console history as well -- an early (meaning it beat the XBox out the door, and DVDs were quite new at the time), relatively inexpensive console & DVD player, on the verge of DVDs becoming the uber medium.
wii will not get the 70% marketshare.
wii will never get all the exclusives like sony did.
there is not going to be a ps2 this generation.
