I remember when Activision said that 1,000,000 units sold was the threshold for them to develop for a platform and that the Odyssey2 was on their horizon.
My point? Absolute sales numbers mean nothing, relative potential for profits is what the various publishers look at. If any one (or two) of the platforms fall far enough back in sales, software development will go more exclusively for the leaders. In the case of the oddball nature of the Wii-mote, that could be the "kiss of death" for the lesser platforms.
It's not at all about sustainable sales, but about maximum profit potential. #3 will see lower and lower sales, lower and lower potential...
