(07/08/08, 03:52) The biggest issue would be that the PSP's phoenix-like rebirth in Japan was due to a mix of market saturation for the DS and the release of a new game in the PSP's answer to Pokemon. Overall software sales in Japan for the PSP have not risen noticeably in spite of the hardware up-spike. That does not make a system look appealing to developers. Not that the inherent piracy that surrounds the PSP would do them much more encouragement (even if in reality the number of people who will pirate a game when the option arises but buy it when the piracy option is unavailable is very small).

Here is a small reference, i talk to people all the time thinking it's exactly like pokemon but 3-D. it makes me crazy O_o He personally may be refering it to as the DS has pokemon and it's a pokemon killer, however once again....that's comparing the two games and making them seem reallly similar.

You read the context of that post wrong.

The post's focus is on sales. Sky Render isn't comparing the gameplay to pokemon, he's comparing the popularity and fanbase to pokemon.

Finally somebody understands . My god , are people realy that slow . When somebody states that MH=Pokemon , but only on the PSP they mean sales and legs of the sales and NOT the type of the game . I guess people are so lazy that they dont even bother to look at screens or check out the game on Wikipedia >_<

Very true, people need to know something about a game before they say something about it.

Hmm; so you collect trophies off of monsters rather than collecting monsters themselves.

Sounds like a more violent version of Pokemon to me.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

Be the ultimate ninja! Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN today! Poisson Village welcomes new players.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

If Monster Hunter =/= Pokemon I have not interest in MH3.

I'm not claiming to have ever played Monster Hunter, but usually when I see people saying how similar they are, it's more to do with their emphasis on multiplayer and their ability to push out Herculean hardware and software numbers. Monster Hunter made the PSP a real competitor again, just as Pokemon Red and Blue breathed new life into the aging Game Boy.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Sorry but the games don't compare in sales either. Pokemon diamon/pearl sold about 5 times more than any monster hunter on the psp.

Monster Rancher is very much like Pokemon. EVEN the animes are very similar in style. In the US dubs I think Suezo (monster rancher) had the same voice actor as Meowth. Genki sounded a lot like Ash too. Holly was just as worthless as Misty.

Someone tried to have a game/anime equivalent to pokemon and it lasted a while too (though not very popular).

I can totally see Ash finding a way to screw up hunting a charizard with a giant freakn sword.

Actually at first I thought Monster Hunter was Monster Rancher which were both PS2 games - which I played the GBA Monster Rancher liked it but not my thing, it wasn't until last year really that I realized their was a difference between Monster Hunter and Monster Rancher.

I'd say the first thing Capcom needs to do to get that thing sold here is drop the name. Americans actually know what Monster Rancher is - which is amazing and so when I head Monster Hunter I thought poke'mon.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

ya I get Monster Hunter and Monster Rancher confused too.

I personally had no idea what the game was about. Never heard of it. I assumed it was like a pokemon and dragonquest monsters game. Where you get monstors to fight for you.

Well i guess now i know. Good luck educating the masses on this.
