I don't think it would matter by that time anyway. But even so, I don't think it would have much of an effect.
...
wii will probably be at 199 when both reach that, and then wiis sales will really explode
The 360 costs less than the Wii in Europe. I think we have seen the effect over there. The main selling point of the Wii is not, and never will be the price.
Um the 360 is already below the wii in Europe, and in the U.S the arcade is that price. Anyway nothing will happen to the wii. If something does, then nintendo could drop the price.
Here in Europe the 360 is already cheaper than Wii, so I don't think it matters that much.
Usually prices are cut to maintain the level of sales, the increase is often short.
Nothing. What the Wii offers is different from what the PS360 offers. HD console sales will rise, oviously (but will STILL not be at mass market prices), but people who want Wii will buy Wii.
Over 75% of home consoles in the previous generation were sold at $199 or less ...
It is possible that the acceptable price for the majority of consumers has increased but it is unlikley that it has passed $250. At the same time people are not (typically) willing to buy a "Gimped" system so the fully functional PS3 and XBox 360 have to approach this price before it becomes attractive to most users. At the rate they're going, it is unlikely that either system will hit that price before late 2009.
What this means is that the Wii will continue to be the dominant console for the masses, pass 50% marketshare (which will be a huge psychological barrier) and slowly steal third party support for the PS3 and XBox 360; and by the time they get to an acceptable price for most consumers the systems will be far less attractive.
