Let me explain: FFVII is not only THE FF, it's also THE Square Enix game (and maybe even THE RPG). If a VII remake will ever come it has to be perfect. Wii is a great machine, but SE can't release a VII remake that looks a lot worse than 13, they just can't. Visuals are a very important aspect of the FF series and they'll want to make the most gorgeous game ver if they remake VII. They'll also want to sell at least on par with the original, that means enormous Japanese sales are needed to achieve that. Unless the PS3 start selling a lot more than they are doing now, especially in Japan, it also won't see a VII remake. Maybe next gen. |
Sorry, but those reasons are faulty. S-E stated that the cost of remaking the game for the PS3 would be too much, sales or no. So they don't really feel the game has to look the best it can, or cost would not be an issue. Heck, the reason it was on the PS1 in the first place was to get around cost issues.
So economy would be the main factor, even though graphics would still be important. That would mean the PSP and the Wii, or both, would be the best bet, due to how both games are selling. The DS is only out because this is about a remake, not a port.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs
It would be hilarious if KH it ended up on neither system but the 360 instead. Boy would that crush hearts.
I doubt there will be a FF VII remake, it would have already happened by now.

Yes , but the PSP version would actually look as a remake , an not just like bumped down port ( lets be honest , technologically a FFVII remake on the DS would be ... well ugly .... ) .

YOu do realize the ds is stronger than the N64, and the N64 was stronger than the ps1. Also FFVII didn't even push the ps1 to its limit, so would something have to be bumped down? MOre like bumped up. Not a generation differnce though, and it would be more of a port.
| makingmusic476 said: One more reason FFVII would probably hit the ps3, if anything this gen: With FFXIII and FFVersusXIII hitting the ps3, most of the FF fanbase will probably own ps3s. Throw FFVII in with the others, and it would provide further incentive for these people buy ps3s, and then buy these games. It would strengthen the target demographic for all three games on the system, and improve sales of each. |
Square Enix knows the Wii is where it is at this generation. The first third parties to truly tap the Wii's userbase are the ones that will be set for the next 3-4 years. At the end of the day, if you put FFVII on an inexpensive system like the Wii, EVERY die-hard FF fan WILL buy the console.
That in turn will give the company a foothold on the generation's strongest platform. Its safe to assume if there hadn't already been massive investment in the PS3 for FFXIII and Versus they would have come to the Wii.

I think Square-Enix is well on it's way to becoming a pretty solid, almost dedicated Nintendo supporter once again (ahh, just like the old days) for two reasons:
1. Square-Enix has never been warm to Microsoft and their support of the Xboxes has been few and far between.
2. And I've referenced this before, last year (around this time or so), there was a GameSpot.com article detailing how Sega, Capcom, and--that's right--Square-Enix had all dropped a lot of PS3 support to focus more heavily on Wii and DS.
Squeenix has given out TONS of support to the DS so far--they're just taking time to get more refinement from their Wii offerings. At the time of the GameSpot article, they had actually dropped ALL PS3 support with the exception of the two versions of FFXIII. Since then, I've heard rumors (though had no real evidence) that Sony "convinced" to make one more "killer" exclusive title for the PS3.
Here's why I wouldn't doubt a Wii remake of FFVII: Because that's what Square-Enix does now. Remake, remake, remake all their classics. They've got FFIII, FFIV, and FFV as well as DQ IV, V, and VI remakes either on or coming to the DS--despite the fact that FFIV, FFV, and FFVI were all released fairly recently on the GBA. Chrono Trigger is coming next (whoo!).
Sure, Final Fantasy fans are graphics whores and MAYBE FFVII would have a better home on the PS3, but think about it. What seems more logical, remake a game and try selling it to the same people, or remake a game and try selling it to a new audience? Selling to the new audience may have a much higher rate of success as we saw with the Resident Evil remake on GC. It makes more sense to try to sell your remake to new people. They know there are FFVII fans with PS3's, but they also know there are RPG fans--many who may never have played FFVII--on the Wii. AND the Wii has a higher attach rate, and it's more affordable than a PS3. So any old FFVII fans that want the game should have no real trouble affording it. As for the graphics? The Wii is substantially more powerful than the PS2 and I have little doubt that Square-Enix could make good use of it. Besides, I doubt they want to spend another 3-5 years re-crafting FFVII for the PS3 when they could recraft it for the Wii in half or even a third of the time.
Kingdom Hearts 3? Hell, I pretty much expect to see it appear on the Wii, especially with that other KH coming to the DS. They could even do what Konami is doing with Castlevania Order of Ecclesia and Judgement by having KH DS and KH3 communicate for bonus features. Besides, there's still the stereotype that "cutesy" games sell on the Wii, and what's considered "cutesier" than friggin Disney?
