Forums - Nintendo - Does Wii Zelda Really Make Sense This E3?

I've read through a number of the E3 threads on the site, and it seems like a lot of Nintendo fans are looking forward to a new Legend of Zelda.

I love Zelda as much as the next, uh, Zelda-lover... but I would be really surprised to have this game announced this year, if it comes to pass at all. Twilight Princess wasn't that long ago, and there are so many more franchises that Nintendo could develop (to say nothing of IPs) -- it makes more sense to me that they would want to allow a little more time between Zelda games, offer some different experiences in the meantime, and then come out with a higher-quality entry than such a short development time would allow.

I know that many say that Twilight Princess was a GameCube game -- not Wii -- but the fact that it was ported to Wii as a launch title will always link the game to that system in my mind, and I think in the minds of many others. I think it was enough of a Wii game to count as such, and motivate Nintendo to work in other directions for a while.

I have no evidence against Wii Zelda (though I don't believe there's yet evidence for it, either) but what is your prediction? Wii Zelda @ E3 '08? Or no? What percent chance do you give it?

I say 5%.

We might get a teaser trailer but I really wouldn't expect the next Zelda until Q4 2009 at the earliest. We'll probably have to wait until the next E3 for any substantial information. As much as I'd like to have a new Zelda game this year, I am more than willing to wait for a very involved, time-consuming Zelda along the lines of TP or OOT.

If it's already been in development for 2 yrs, then yea it makes sense. Not to mention Nintendo has done this before with Zelda games. Show them off well before there release.(Zelda:TP at E3 2004)

We can only hope they do show something this E3, or at least show a hint that it's coming

A teaser...or announcement makes complete sense. Zelda launched with the Wii....and it's development began during the GameCube era (consider Twilight Princess a GameCube port). There's no reason that almost two years after launch that they shouldn't at least show us the general theme of the world, the graphic style, and an image of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf.

If they don't...it will only be because they want to give precedence to games like Kid Icarus, Pikmin 3, and Animal Crossing.

I give it a 35% chance (as a reveal and nothing else).

there is always room for Zelda to be known...

something Nintendo really needs to work on is the hype level for their games..

in that area sony and micro wipe the floor with them, i mean any big game from sony or micro has floor space, show space, slide space, and any other space they can get it....and even if teh game is just ok it sells really well

nin could do better with this

TP was completed in late 2005 but it was delayed to become a wii launch title, the team already had almost 3 years, i expect at least a teaser from them this E3

Wii/Mario Kart Wii Code:2793-0686-5434

The time span between Zeldas has been a lot shorter in recent years than you seem to think. One of them hits the console about every two years, so an E3 announcement for the game this Fall wouldn't be out of the question.

I am doubtful, but there is still a chance.

I would actually prefer it not be announced properly until nearer the release date though.

Doubt it.

Nintendo has too many teams doing god knows what.

Retro/Hal/the Wii Fit team/the Galaxy team/EAD/Intelligent Systems/Monolith/and RD1-4 should all be fairly free.

I'm sure some of the teams are doing Disaster, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, and Wii Music but that should leave six-ten teams with unannounced projects for a while.
