Forums - Sony - Anyone else think Little Big Planet will sell terribly?

This game has the power to glue Sony's IPs together like nothing before it. If I were in Sony's shoes I'd market this game with developer made content packs/levels that tie into Sony's larger stable of IPs. A Killzone, God of War, Rachet and Clank, or Uncharted download pack with items, costums, and textures from those games would sell like crazy to fans of those games (the sort of fan service Nintendo capitalizes on with Smash Bros.)

Do this, and the game will sell like crazy.

From what I understand Media Molecule is calling in other level designers from other Sony developers to make new levels for the single player package.  Whether these levels will include the IP of these development houses is still unknown.

a Jak and Daxter sack boy... or a Kratos one, that would be amazing

It deserves to sell well, but I don't have much faith in PS3 owners.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)
PC: 10^9
Wii: 10^8

I think Sony is smart enough to know this is what gamers want and if they are really smart they'll advertise the hell out of this content day one (presuming it is available day one based on killzone content already shown).

I have visions of box art for this game with major Sony mascot sacboys crowded around each other in a glorious game selling pose that no Sony fan can resist.

It won't sell as big as some think it will, but it'll do alright, I think.

I don't think this game will live up to the hype, but only because of how heavily it's been hyped. I can easily see it doing GTAIV numbers, but with better legs, but it will still have people somehow calling it on disappointing sales

Huh? Any game that sells as well as GTA is among the best selling games ever.

I certainly hope it sells well, and if advertised well it could sell a few million but without significant investment by Sony in advertising it may not reach the heights many wish.

I guess this is the next game that Wii Fanboys are predicting to fail, after Uncharted and MGS4 did well.

Anyway, first week sales will not be too big, but word of mouth will get this game established and will have long legs.

If you consider about 1.7 mil well that's fine.  But some people are convinced the game is going to sell 5-10 million and case a big PS3 casual revolution.

If it doesn't sell well I shall have to moan and bitch a fair bit as this looks sweet and really, given the levels of stagnation for new IP and ideas, it should be embraced - if of course it does turn out well.

Still, from what I gather the team is actually small and for once the hype has more come from market reaction - i.e. previews, etc. - than developer generated, which is normally a pretty good thing and also means that the sales required to make it profitable are far less than a big title with a large team labouring over it.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
